Hey all,

Has anyone here made their own fruit vodka before?

My girlfriend and I were at my uncles house at the weekend watching the F1 and we got to talking about alcohol... and got onto the subject of making your own weird and wonderful brews... we tasted some of their Raspberry vodka and we're impressed... so we set about spending ~£75 in ASDA on vodka, fruit and sugar to create some of these :D

Unfortunately they take around 2-3 months to properly draw out all the flavour from the various fruits we're using, which are:

Apple, Pear, Raspberry, Blueberry, Vanilla, Lemon, Peach, Mango, Strawberry and Cherry

has anyone go any fantastic recipes for summery fruity alcoholic drinks for when/if the weather improves??

Do it every October/November for Christmas. Cut loads of lemons (replace with acidic fruit of choice ;)) into wedges and push them into a large glass bottle with some sugar (to taste) and fill with vodka. Can use some cheaper stuff as the lemon takes over the flavour. I bagged a couple empty 1.5ltr Smirnoff bottles from my local pub last time. After the lemon and sugar, it takes about 1.2ltr to fill :D

Edit: a couple of years ago a flatmate of mine made some vodka shots up with caramel icecream syrup. Just drink some of a 1ltr bottle and squeeze in a whole (300ml I think) bottle of that stuff. Not to my taste but I could see the appeal!

Mmmm looks tasty! So you leave them sit for 2-3 months then just strain out the pulp? Whats the brown looking one?

those lables are very impressive

i did make Mars vodka once. pop a mars bar or two in there and let it melt ... yum yum

Correct... you can drink them after 1 months but the flavour isnt as intense... you can leave them as long as 3 years - but that takes considerable willpower. We're thinking of running them all through a coffee filter inside a funnel, keeping the vodka bottles that we bought the vodka from ASDA in and straining it all back into there once we're happy with the flavours :-)

Its a case of 200g+ fruit (depending on the flavour you want), 200g of sugar (for a 1 litre bottle) and the rest is vodka!

Only exception to this is the vanilla which does not require any sugar so is 1% vanilla pod (expensive they are too!) 99% vodka ;)

The brown one is pear, i decided it would be a good idea to blend the pear into a purée to allow it to infuse easier... looks disgusting but already tastes alright!

Good effort, the labels look awesome.

Try sweets in Vodka - usually very nice outcome.

Recent success with sherbert lemon, cola cubes and mars bars!

A couple of bags of Skittles launched into a bottle and left to dissolve works pretty well. You just have to sieve the scum off the top at the end of the process. Also used to do this with vodka miniatures and specific Skittles combos for slightly different birthday presents.

Edit: into a bottle of vodka, not just 'a bottle'.

Thanks, they took a while to do but figured if we're spending nearly £100 on ingredients a bit of effort may as well go into the labelling process :-)

Will consider these options :D... i wonder if it would work with the harribo cherry sweets... love them!

yeah on my travels of the interwebs searching for inspiration i found a lot of places who suggest Skittles... apparently the effects are more instantaneous than a 3-6 month wait for the fruit to give the vodka some flavour!

I think I might give it a go this weekend!

That was my intention, raise awareness of this cheap and versatile drink... heres to vodka! *hick*

These are gonna taste awesome.. especially the vanilla one..

I recently made Skittles Vokda.. and you don't know its gonna hit you until it does! Be careful

Since you seem to have first hand knowledge of stuff that has worked, would you be able to give me a detailed recipe? (email in trust if you want).

I have £40 odd spare, and instead of some MORE beer, I might try this for teh lulz.

We tried skittle vodka, bright orange stuff, tasted very fruity but then the sudden taste of vodka would hit you like a freight train. Made for some good nights mind you.

I've done the skittles one before, and unless you like drinking an oddly brown liquid take out the green ones. :)
Also with skittles and other jelly/hard sweets (like fruit salad) running them through the dishwasher helps them melt and dissolve into the vodka a lot faster.

I'm guessing the heat of the dishwashing process gets it all nice and warm and helps the process take place, nice!!!
