the so called "Backwards Compatibility" for the xbox is a load of rubbish! under half of the games work and some big games like metal gear 2 do not work however, some games people have never heard of are made for Backwards Compatibility mode why is this???? how can they have a Backwards Compatibility when half the games dont work with it! the PS2 you could play all of the PS1 games

Some games use more complex coding so therefore are more difficult to emulate. Barbie is probably a simple game, for example. I've tried it with a few games - only Halo is any good. Halo 2 has graphical artifacting. The GTA games have terrible slowdown. Thankfully I have them all on PC.

Nothing to do with that, it purely depends on the hardware tricks used within each individual game. Games that use fewer of these tricks are easy to emulate and often emulation is enabled for those games as a by product of doing BC for another game. This is why some obscure games are on the BC list.

All the games I've tried are fine. Still play JSRF and SSX 3 occasionally, the only last gen games that don't have a next gen equivalent yet that I'm keen on. (In fact it shock me that we still haven't seen a next gen snowboarding game other than the average, lacking multiplayer Amped 3 and the crap Shaun White's, EA GIVE US SSX [/rant])

That's naughty then! All developers are supposed to have stuck to using DirectX so no matter what hardware is used, the games should still run.

When I eventually play from the xbox classic back catalogue I'll just see what's available to download from xbox live and buy them second hand.

Anyway, I always thought Microsoft advertised which games were compatible?

They do - just some devs can figure out a few slight of hand tricks within that which make it harder to emulate.

Cats chasing dogs, horses eating each other etc etc.

It was the Substance version of MGS btw, but I think it lacked the skateboarding.

Yep, only the PS2 version of Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance had the skateboarding game as it was based upon Evolution Skateboarding by Konami themselves.

Otherwise though, obviously the Xbox and PC versions was the better looking one.

That's odd, halo for me has a constant jerking/fps drop every 3 or 4 seconds, does it on all the 360's I have had. Halo 2 is perfect however...

How weird! I thought that was why Microsoft haven't put Halo 2 as an Xbox Original yet because of the artifacting...

Works fine for me too the first one, only problem i had with the game is it was very dark on my HD screen, I had to play around with custom settings to bring it up properly. It also has a few glitches here and there with triggered events. but it seems fine other than that

ohhh i was going to ask some one if operation flashpoint elite works on xbox 360 ive looked at official site and its not in the list wtf?

This is the official list of games:
http://www.xbox.com/en-GB/games/backwardcompatibilitygameslist.htm

This is a wikipedia article listing reported issues on the relevant games:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Xbox_games_compatible_with_Xbox_360

I think if it is not any of these 2 lists you are out of luck. I am fairly sure I read there were not going to be any future updates for backwards compatibility (not certain of this, although the last update to the official page is in 2007 so it seems plausible).
