£500 laptop for Half Life 2 and CS: Source

this is the 6930G you're talking about right jp bl 68? hows the texture on the touchpad? is it weird?

Yeah it's the 6930G. The trackpad feels a little rough. There are small indentations, like this - , all over the pad and wrist rest. The material the trackpad is made of feels like 'dry' plastic, that's the only way I can think to describe it. It's not shiny and it doesn't feel 'sticky' the way some plastic does.

My main concern so far is that the actual trackpad stops about half a cm before you reach the edge of it. It's not great.

Yes, it split it over 2 DVDs. To be honest, I wasn't paying much attention to it. I suppose it took about 45 minutes.

The keyboard is surprisingly sturdy. I used to use a Pavilion and an Inspiron and this feels stronger than both of them. I was really surprised.

I think the 7 day returns policy is standard for anything you order online or over the phone, providing it's in resalable condition. The place I bought it from advertised it with a different graphics card to the one that's actually installed so that alone should give you grounds to return it if you don't like it.

Is the card better or worse than advertised? Which card is it actually? Thanks

Just picked up COD 4, gonna install now and see how it plays :)

Let us know how you get on ;)

Just had a quick go on the single player COD4 demo. 1024x768, 4x anti aliasing, detail/textures on 'normal' (I think). It looks really good. Decent frame rate. Very playable. I'm not sure how it'd handle newer FPSs but I'm hoping it'll cope with Starcraft 2.

Carnt get COD 4 DVD to install lol

The DVD wont read it, reads other disks fine and the COD 4 disk works in another system.

Firmware for the drive slimtype dvd a ds8a2s ??? anyone no a good place to look for one ??

thanks ben

I have had the Acer Aspire 5920g for a year and a half now and I admit it's very good for a laptop. The new ones (6000 series) certainly look a lot better in black, mine is white on the inside but same black for the lid. My specs are similar to the ones your all mentioning except later models of those componants.
Core 2 Duo T7300 2.0GHz,
15.4" TFT,
2048MB RAM,
250GB Hard-drive,
DVD±RW,
GeForce 8600 Graphics 256mb

Costed £639.99 back in March 2008.

This is why I changed to xbox 360 gaming few years back no problems ever !!

PC gaming pain in the bum lol

Will try updating/reinstalling the driver for the device the touch button controls.

I was hoping i could just reinstall the software that controls the button panel.

What a nightmare, i wanna do is play COD 4 lol

I did install it over the network via mapped drive like u said, took 2 hours lol

Will update tomorrow off out now.

OK Ben, sorry not the quickest way but a fix none the less :)

Fixed and COD 4 working installed.

Well got the quick lauch buttons working dont ask me how they just started again lol, maybe a combination of reinstalling launcher manager and device drivers.

COD 4 disk still does not read in my drive, but its installed now :) will wait on a reply from Lite-ON re the firmware. Must just be the drive does not like the COD 4 disk maybe the copy protection system.

COD 4 is more than playable set at 1366x768.

Thanks for the help lads.

How does the laptop perform playing COD4?

Can't decide whether to go for the 6930 (9600GT 1GB DDR2) or the 6935 (9600GT 512MB DDR3)

Need to read up more I think
