Motorists to pay £250 tax for parking at work

maybe if we had good public transport and it was a genuine attempt to persuade people onto them it wouldnt seem like robbery.

but buses/metros are usually stupidly busy during the times when most people are going to/leaving work.

on the busses in newcasltle the drivers pack the isle with people and its a nightmare to get off + there are generally huge queues to get on

I don't know if it is just me but it seems like these new schemes for raking in more taxes are to keep on paying greedy corrupt people as tax revenues have been cut due to the recession..

From my experience in Swindon its generally quite good. The park and ride services are adequate and for the most part the buses interlink well and allow you to get to work easily and on time.

will be all hours, screwing shift workers who generally have less available public transport. nice

stupid government

Scheme aside, someone has been paid good money to dream up this ****. Thankfully we have no spaces and we get long stay annual permits from work.

What a joke. Living in a rural area which also happens to have about the third lowest average wage in the country this will hurt a lot of people. Its more than a weeks wage for most.

Public transport is sparse and only consists of buses as we have zero rail links due to some great thinking in the 1960's

Get used to it guys. You know all that money they pumped into supporting the banks and also the "quantative easing" that's been going on (look it up if ypu need to - scary stuff!)... well it all has to be paid for and it's almost certain that taxes will be levied on us left right and centre to do so.

I so hate Labour governments :(

oh, it is slightly misleading, the article states the companies will be charged but they may pass it on to the staff ;]

Haha, I've just envisaged the next steps in the program... Taxing your car if it's parked at home too. Just wait till you hear about the car passenger tax and the tax on looking at a car...

NB: I do not drive.

wasn't this up a few years ago but thrown out because the streets would be chaos with people parking there rather than work carparks

They tax the company for having cars parked on it, not you.

But I don't get how this can even make sense, you are allowed to park a car tax free on your driveway at home because it's private property, which you have bought from the state.

It's the exact same principle with company's. They bought the land from the state and should therefor be able to do whatever they please on that land.

Not exactly, you can't just do whatever you want on a plot of land there are still rules, regulations and taxes on just about anything you want to have on that land.
