I have 2 years NCB as of May 09 (acquired on a Fiesta and an RX-8). I then switched to my A3 at the same time as my insurance was renewed, but I also switched insurer to Swiftcover.

If I go through with my intentions and buy a Z4, Swiftcover won't insure me because of my age, and I'll need to go to Admiral.

Will Swiftcover provide proof of no claims in the last ~3 months, and will it still allow me to take that 3 months to Admiral, and achieve my third year of no claims in May 10?

Basically, will switching insurer and car during a policy affect this third year of my NCB?

You have to have completed the year with swift cover, wait intill you policey with swift cover comes to an end then buy the z4 and go with admiral. Id never go with admiral tho after the GF tryed claiming with them tho. They 1st claimed she had points she didnt declear to them (she got them after the accident) then they said she didnt even have a licence!! 8 months on they have no agreed they were wrong and everything was above board and are now sending a check out, tho still yet to recive! and we had loads of hassle and no money for 8 months!!!

Gah, I don't want to wait until next May! I take it there's no way around what I want to do? Other than to swallow 3 months NCB loss...

I have 2 years NCB as of May, at which point I switched to Swiftcover. The new quotes are with swiftcover and again with 2 years NCB. Can't see as how it can be done any other way, but the reason it states is "Main driver too young to cover" when trying a Z4. If I change my year of birth to 1984 instead of 1986, making me 25, then it goes through fine.

Phone them and ask about the age thing?

And no you can't carry the 3 months over to another company, just how the "system" ahem, "works".

Swiftcover are online only. I know, it's just a bit depressing.

Is it worth sitting out the next 9 months, or should I sack it off and just accept the 3 month loss and start again with 2 years?

Right, I've put the A3 up on Autotrader, asking 12,850. So long as I get 12,500, I'll be cool with that.

Please someone hurry up and buy it so I can go Z4 shopping :D

Just to update this slightly: I cancelled the policy, but because I was forced to cancel as they wouldn't insure me on my new car it doesn't count as my choice and therefore I get a full pro rata refund (i.e. about 75%) rather than the 60% I would have on the regular sliding scale. Was quite pleased with that.

I actually rather like it. It's like being in a video game :D. I still love traditional manual boxes, and would go for one again, but this car was the right car, with the right history, in immaculate condition, at the right time. It had to be purchased. I haven't got a camera at the moment, but will try and pinch one tomorrow and do a proper set of pics/write up of the week so far.

I'm jealous, I want a Z4 so bad. Preferably the coupe but I'd take either. I will have one.... Saving hard.

I had to do the same when my current insurer wouldnt insure my new car but because I had the policy for over 6 months my new insurer Norwich Union added a year to my NCB!

Very surprised you managed to swing this because in my eyes it was your choice to change cars. Well done though.

Did you read about how reliable SSG is? It's basically an Alfa Selespeed box

Ouch, would not buy a BMW with an SSG box. Suprised you didnt find out how bad they are when you did your research before buying? Mind you so many completely different cars in such a short space of time suggests you impulse buy cars :p

Just something worth noting:

If you cancel the cover, you'll get a short term cancellation fee, which will cost you.

However, if you buy the car, do a change of vehicle, and swiftcover refuse the new risk, they should cancel it pro-rata, which means you only pay for the cover you've had so far, and you'll get everything back.

Edit: woo! i see you've already done this. grats me on being able to read.
