***** The OFFICIAL ANTI-iPhone Thread *****

This thread is so petty!

I agree that Apple overhype their products, but some of the replies in this thread are hilarious.

Don't like an iPod/iPhone - don't buy it! Don't start sounding off like a petulant toddler. Don't like the posers? don't look at them!

Gotta sign up for this! I DESPISE the blinkered self indulged view of everyone I know with them, like that the world begins and ends with iPhones...

Fact is, they're actually quite compromised and pretty ******* expensive!

Err. Lol.

I had an iPhone 2G, loved it, hated it, sold it. Had a Nokia N81 for ages, loved it, did everything. Bought an iPhone 3G as I missed the way iPhones handed mail/web, not looked back as I love it. Does that mean your blanket view of "self indulgent iphone users" applies to me too?

I got my 2G for £150 "off contract" when CPW were clearing the 2Gs ahead of the 3G launch, and I bought my 3G nearly new for £250 a couple of months back... hardly expensive compared to the price of some off contract mobiles. £500+ for the N95 8gb when it was out new IIRC.

well the iphone 3g(and now the 3gs) new sim free is £500+ as well, you can also get the n95(or any phone for that matter once its been out for awhile) 'nearly new' on the cheap so making those comparisons without looking at the whole picture is not right and could be said to fall in the iphone owners steriotype(sp?).

Oooh dear, nothing like a good ol' stereotypical opinion. I suppose you take the view that all muslims are all terrorists or that all Germans are nazi's.

FFS its a phone. It makes calls, it texts & may even do some other stuff.

Do you understand that some people buy stuff because they might like it. Rather than trying to be (as you put it) 'self indulged'.

Of course because I own one, I must be thinking that the world begins and ends in iphone, but then again its a business contract and oh wait...I have a nokia E71 on a personal contract.

This must mean I'm an exception to the iphone rule by your measures because I have the down right cheek to own a phone from another handset maker and like it.

Am I self indulged? Nah. Do I think I'm a poser? Nah.

Why? Because its a phone, its a solid object made of some plastic with a screen

And I aint defending the iphone either, if it was the only phone I had it would drive me crazy. Too expensive, too limiting, poor hardware specs, who the hell uses copy & paste and the fact that apple are still updating the firmware so long after first releasing it is disgraceful.

I use the iphone cos its a bloody good music video player while I'm on the train and doubles up as a decent business phone for e-mail....end of story.

My 2 cents..

Price aside.. What the iphone does it does VERY well. But there are certain decisions made for you (for various reasons) like only being able to run one background app, that make it anoying.

You can jailbreak it but then you loose the 'confidence' factor that it'll always just work. Also you end up playing the cat and mouse game with apple on every firmware release.. you might get used to all the jailbroken features (like skinning), only to find a new great update came out from apple with features you must have., and you'll loose the jailbreak.

The other plus side is the number of apps. There really is almost an app for everything, and a lot of them are free.

imho with an iphone you pay slightly over the odds to get something with a simple but very effective UI. You're limited on the hacking potential but that's the trade off.

I really dont see what people have against it.

Me, i've used all the iphones, 2g, 3g and 3gs for various periods of time, and they really are great. But in the end i got bored and decided to be different.

iPhones out of contract are not particularly expensive (for a smart phone), my HD would have been more expensive sim free than the iPhone if I got it that way, as with a lot of other phones (it's still around the £500 mark around 9 months after release). However due to the exclusive deal O2 have the contracts are extortionate. My HD on O2 is working out at £502 for 18 months (600 mins/txts and web), whereas the iPhone works out at ~£800 for the same deal due to CPW etc not being able to change prices.:)

The Iphone is a great phone does things very well, pretty much the best UI out just get over it as been said its just a phone lol, i borrowed my brothers 3G for a few months and i have to say its the best phone i have used, and has a great mp3 player on it as its a ipod basically, if i could afford one i would have one without a doubt.

Actually, I stumbled across something the other day that counters that opinion. It seems the iPhone has the same (worse actually) problem as the iPods, rubbish sound quality (in comparison to the competition). I don't know about you but sound quality is at the top of my list for an mp3 player, closely followed by battery life, which the iPhone (and iPods to an extent) don't particularly fair well with either...;)

The iPhone has very good sound quality, as good or better than my Nokia 5800, which is also classed as very good for a phone.

For a phone maybe, apparently my HD has better SQ than the iPhone, and it is no where near as good as my walkman (although walkmans themselves are near the top of the pile for SQ in the mp3 market).

The 5800's SQ is ok, but still doesn't compare to a dedicated mp3 player either.

The technology and software for the iPod component of the iPhone is the same as in the iPod touch and it shouldn't just be "good for a phone", it should be amazing if it's coming directly from something sold solely as a music player.

The iPhone sound is as good if not better as the nokia 5800. Live with it lol.

I'm very pleased with this "very good for a phone" sound quality . Blimey people are never happy.

Sound quality comparison, apologies for the formatting:

I hate it, just because they price they charge for it is shocking.

Plus it seems to attract loads of non savvy folk who fall for the adverts and think all the stuff on the iphone is new and only on the iphone much like my ex-girlfriend.

Who I had to prove its not only the iphone that has gps like a tom tom as she put it.

Apple have simply capitalised on the success of the iPod and released a phone in the similar vein to hook people that were caught up with the hype of the iPod. I'm not an Apple fan but you've got to hand it to their marketing.

As has been pointed out, other phones have better features, but they don't advertise it. Only Apple seems to get away with advertising a new feature on their phone (cut and paste) which others have had for longer.

Incase you're wondering, I bought a BB Storm as the messaging capabilitie are better.
