Phone again... the first lady i spoke to was giving me all sorts of BS, 30 days notice, cant do this untill september, cant keep my number blah blah blah i told her i would cancel tonight with another person and that she was lieing. She said 'everyone is in the same department with the same rules' i allmost gave her the address of this forum to look at the posts lol.

Anyways, phoned back and spoke to a nicer guy and he canceled me , im keeping the number on orange so hes sent me out a PAYG sim card which will arrive within 30 days and once activated will cancel my contract.

Just ring straight back, took me no more than 30 minutes!

I started a contract with orange mid July before all of these changes came to light. Hearing rumours that it doesn’t affect contracts after June 1st blah blah. So, I made an international call to Europe 1 for exactly a min (cost 45p inc vat) and a 5 sec call to an 0500 number to see the minimum charge (unbilled for 5p). The changes commencing in September will affect me IF they do make the changes contract wide. Those calls should have cost me 58.7p and 14.7p respectively if my contract already included the changes which have been confirmed for September. I can’t imagine that they will only increase the charges for the old contracts and not the new. Maybe I will get the text too?

I have also checked my terms and conditions and they do not mention anything about an impending rise.

They've still not updated their terms and conditions, at least they hadn't when I checked yesterday. I'm not even sure whereabouts the price rise info is on the site.

Well, I took the contract under the T&C at the time. I ordered online and read the T&C online. The only question for me is, will be call charges go up? If so then I have a case. Anyone with a new contract circa June/July 09 had any communication with orange?

It was mid July, so no, the cooling off period is over. Plus I am happy so far with phone and contract.

I think you had to have taken the contract out before 31st May.

There does seem to be a lot of rumours circulating. I read that contracts after the 31st May have the new pricing built in already, but clearly this is the not the case as I have made some international calls (which I paid old rates for) and 08 calls that should attract a min charge of 14.7p but I recieved the old rate of min 5p. (which is what is quoted in my T&C min. 5p by the way)

My contract started around 26th-27th June 2009. Nokia N86, 24 month contract, 1200 mins, unlimited text, 500mb net £30 pm on Dolphin 40...

Fully cancelled, PAYG sim on the way. NEVER got the text. The customer rep checked the "first system" and said it didn't apply and then checked "another" system and said it would apply and therefore will cancel now. This was my 5th-6th call.

I said what should I do with the handset, he said "Keep it, it's yours now"

:)

Hmm I'm already on 600 mins with unlimited texts, and of those 600 mins I barely use any because my Mrs is one of my magic numbers...

Will have to see if I can get anything. I'd probably still cancel anyway just to get a new phone so I can make a bit of dollar that way if I can't get any discount.

Way to admit to obtaining goods by deception, or possibly fraud.

To everyone who has a mobile phone from Mobiles.co.uk and is considering cancelling; Orange do not pay us commission on contracts ended within a certain period of them starting, therefore the mobile phone you obtained from us (and the free gift) has not been paid for. Without returning the phone and free gift Mobiles.co.uk have no choice but to request payment for these goods from the customer who has them.

This is why we have Terms and Conditions (which *must* be agreed to prior to you submitting your order), to protect our business and employees.

Happy to answer questions about this issue, but using it as a pretext to cancel your contract and keep the mobile and/or free gift is dishonest and illegal. It's no different to
clawing back payments for perfectly good products via your credit card issuer.

So Ben, how long after we take a contract out with Orange via Mobiles.co.uk do you get your commission from Orange ? I took out a contract in early April this year, didn’t get anything fancy, no gift etc., but am not happy with the proposed Orange changes coming into effect because they will affect me considerably.

Question:

I'm planning to get the HTC hero on Orange, my contract is about to expire (just over 3 months left) If i cancel my contract using this method - i wont be able to get a discount on the loyalty bonus scheme?

Would i be better off if i cancel completely and sign a new contract?

How is it deception and fraud? I'm 15 months into my 18 month contract having been with them the past 4 or 5 years. The phone that I paid £100 for at the start of my contract broke. I could have committed 'deception and possibly fraud' then to get a replacement, but I didn't and just bought a really cheap one.

I don't go outside my inclusive minutes because as I said my girlfriend is my magic number. What if I split up with her? A new girlfriend might be on O2..

However at the moment I would be affected by the data charges as I understand it? Can someone clarify this please? I tend to check facebook on my phone a lot and I don't have any data bundle. So if I was to check it once a day now, it would cost me what, maybe 10p? If I was to do it once these charges kick in, that would be 60p. Is that right? If that is the case then I'm very much affected...

Oh, and I had nothing to do with mobiles.co.uk thanks. I dealt directly with Orange.
