My motherboard supports SLi and Crossfire so i am looking into a GFX update soon.. What performs the best out of these as they are similar price give or take £10 or so.

Do they differ in power consumption?

A pair of these would be pretty nice and be easily on par with a GTX 295

Yeah they were the ones i was looking at.

pretty sure the 4850's use more power than the GTS250's.

you could also consider 2 GTX260's.

Not majorly bothered about power consumption as long as 620w Corsair will be fine with this, 3 hdd and overclocked core2duo/i7.

2x260 are out of my price range..

A pair of GTS 250s (1GB) sure is a good value Graphics solution. But I think saying they are on par with a 295 is slightly overstating the case, 2x GTX 260 (216 core) in SLI are almost on par with a 295.

Personally, If you have the money for two GTS250/4850s i'd spend it on a single, faster card. The performance will be similar, there is no problem with multi-GPU scaling and game support and you can add another card in the future. A card like this or this should be in your budget.

I would stick with a single card, less chance of something going wrong, stand the reason.

For the price of 2 of those cards you could get a HD4870/HD4890 or a GTX260/GTX270. All of which will be great cards and run pretty much everything maxed at high resolutions.

Also remember the new range of ATI cards are due end of this year so I wouldn't go blowing the big bucks on cards that old when new ones are on the horizon.

if its performance you want, a single 295 card will out perform x2 4870's on 97% all all games, it costs a little extra only and bfg cards have a lifetime guarantee = win win

Get a single 260 or 275GTX or a 4890... prolly cost around the same as SLI with either 250 or 4850 and wouldn't have the disadvantages of SLI.

def go with the single card route. Then add a second 890
/275 later for a real power house.

That said twin 250's perform exceptionally well in sli. . . .
