What's the best value for money tyre at 185/55R14?

It's for a Mk5 fiesta 1.25, my GF's car. Never driven hard etc.

Thanks,

Chris

That's the same size as mine and tyres for this size are stupidly expensive. Firestone TZ200s would be the best bet, I've got them on the rear of my Fiesta and they are fine.

Can I fit a slightly different size where range and/or pricing could be better?
185/60R14 yields better pricing on the same tyre.

How are toyo proxes cf1?

Would it cause any sort of issue?

For reference:

Tire Size Comparison

Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revs/Mile Difference
185/55-14 4.0in 11.0in 22.0in 69.2in 916 0.0%
185/60-14 4.4in 11.4in 22.7in 71.4in 887 3.3%

Will make the speedo underread compared to now (so will probably make it more accurate) and if it's slammed (which I doubt) then the slightly larger diameter might cause rubbing but tbh I can't see it having any adverse effect on a shopping trolley.

Looking to get a pair fitted today.

Would I be OK with 185/60 on the front and 185/55 on the rear (don't need/want to change the rears right now)?

Secondly, how are Goodyear DuraGrip? Have done a search but only found one thread on them!

My Gf has hankook on her KA, lasted really well (15k so far and loads of tread left) and seem to grip well. Only cost £30 a tyre also.

Might change it marginally but it's not exactly going to "mess it up" sounds like an excuse not to fit them to me. Guessing in the modern H&S conscious world you may struggle to find someone who'll fit a non-standard size for fear of getting sued. Hadn't really considered that.

Yeah those were my thoughts too Phil since I know the place and always thought the chap knew what he was on about since he has restored a few modern classics.

The 60's are so much cheaper though. Just had a local quote on some of these Goodyear Duragrip. 132.90 in 55's or £96 in 60.

Went for the Duragrip in 185 60 R14 in the end.

Just driven back and they are such an improvement over the wan(k)li at 5mm and random tyre at 1.6mm.

Did a "when I raise my hand" stop and the tyres performed pretty much spot on. It's nice and dry out so time will tell how they are in the wet but I can't see them being crap.

Had the same problem with my old Astra that had 175/65R14 as standard (pretty tiny for a 16v GTE with 155bhp). A couple of places were unhappy fitting 185/60's even though the change in rolling radius was very small.

Is there any visible difference between 55 and 60?

That thing I quoted above says a 0.7inch difference in diameter.

It's a visual difference but hardly noticable.

The rears are on 3mm so come this time next year I will get those changed and fit 60's on instead so then there will be no difference.

If I am honest I think a lot of tyre places don't really have a clue how the numbers relate to the size of the tyre.

It's crazy how the difference from 55 to 60 is £25 a tyre for some Continentals. Think I may go down that route for new rubber. Cheers.
