i got an e-mail this morning saying that my WoW account has been merged with a battle.net account with a different e-mail address and password.

It wasn't me that did this and i've never given out my password.
i got linked to this page Here does it look legit to you guys ?

Hello Maryann,

This e-mail notification is to inform you that the World of Warcraft account, myaccountname, has just been merged into a Battle.net account. If you were not the person who performed this account merge, please contact Battle.net Supportimmediately.

You have successfully merged the following World of Warcraft account:

myaccountname

into the following Battle.net account:

g***@gmail.com

From now on, you must use the above Battle.net account name and its password to play World of Warcraft and to access World of Warcraft Account Management for billing and subscription services. Your World of Warcraft billing information has not been affected by this merge.

Important! Please note that any existing recurring billing on the merged World of Warcraft account will continue uninterrupted.

In addition, you will use the above Battle.net account username and its password to log in to other Blizzard online services such as World of Warcraft Account Management, the World of Warcraft Armory, and the Blizzard Store.

A similar notification of this account merge has also been sent to the email address registered to the Battle.net account.

For more information, click here for answers to Frequently Asked Questions or to contact the Blizzard Billing & Account Services team.

Sincerely,
The Battle.net Account Team

DO you log into the discussion forums? Because if you have just logged into them recently for the first time then it automatically turns your account into a BattleNet account. If you haven't done this then I would be getting worried

thing is i can't login to WoW at all :@

really annoying me i've e-mailed the support to see what happens :S

Yea ok now be afraid. Ring support quickly rather than e-mailing them because sounds like you've been hacked

Should get one of those Blizzard authenticator thingies. What's £15 compared to the amount of effort invested in your WoW account?

phone has been on the line to them for about 20mins now and still says its atleast half an hour.

and no i've logged into the forums quite a few times before.

i was playing last night until about 3am logged off looked at some crap on youtube then wake up to this bloody e-mail :@
i gotta go work now so can't carry-on ringing i'll have to take it up 2morrowif they don't e-mail me back.

what are these ?

MIght be an improvement, but its still not 100%. My cousins guild had their guild bank emptied. They somehoe hacked his account and he was using the authenticator things. This was the other day too..

You'll get all your stuff back though. Eventually.

An old guildie had this happen to him, the hacker also merged it with a battle.net account.

He got it sorted eventually by spending a couple of hours on the phone to Blizzard.

Ultimate tip = get your own battle.net account and merge it with WoW account then this kinda of thing can't happen. When you do this you use your email address to log into WoW with instead of a separate account name.

Much easier and secure imo.

This has been quite common since it's been possible to merge WoW accounts into Battle.net accounts. Hackers will do an account merger if it hasn't been done already, as you won't have access to the Battle.net account it makes it that much harder for you to recover your account, all the while giving the hacker more time to fleece as much as they can off your characters.

General advice for anyone who hasn't done the Battle.net account merger, now is probably a good time to get on and do it, so on the off-chance your account details do get compromised the hacker can do less damage.

It's worth noting that if you have an iPhone or iPod Touch, then you can download the Blizzard Authenticator app for free from the App Store.

Have you tried using the email address that's stated in that email you got sent as your username? It is highly possible that Blizzard have started automatically converting all non-Battle.net accounts to Battle.net accounts now as it has been some months since you were able to merge them manually.

Hate to worry you, but sounds like the account has been merged.

Stay on the phone, i waited 2 weeks + for an email response, and then they wanted photo proof of ownership and a copy of my drivers license, and then took a week ontop of that to sort out. Blizz really are useless when it comes to these things, my guess would be not enough staff :(

And if you haven't already, update your anti virus and run a full scan on your PC.

If you don't have anti-virus, hold still while I slap you around the head :)
