I think a spec like this would make me upgrade my 40d, seems a coincidence that the day the nikons get announced this comes out:

60D Rumor
Someone claiming to have seen the final proofs for the 60D brochure says these are the specs of the upcoming 60D.

Here are some of the specs:
- sensor seems to be a tweaked version of the current 15MP sensor (better
DR, better high ISO IQ, eliminated pattern banding at high ISO)

- 98%-coverage, 0.96x magnification VF

- 3″, 1150K-pixel, active-matrix, organic LED display (25% higher-res than
current 960K screens)

- 19-pt., all-cross type area AF ellipse (basically, the current 1-series AF
point layout w/o the 26-pt. assist AF pts.; the new 1-series apparently will
have an all-new 45-pt., all-cross type AF module; what limits Canon from
drastically reworking the AF-point layout is the fact that all the currrent
Speedlights have AF-assist beam patterns that are designed only for 7, 9 &
45-pt. AF layouts–they just can’t make a new area AF design or add more AF
pts. that easily because of that).

- 1080p@30fps full HD video with full manual controls and contrast-
detect AF, stereo audio inputs

- 7.4FPS@14-bit mode (CIPA-standard testing method)

- new DiGIC V is more than 2x faster than current DiGICIV, enables
onboard processing of all those DPP functions still not done in-camera
with the current cams (i.e., lateral CA correction, geometric
distortion correction, better highlight & shadow detail extraction,
plus new “Diffraction Elimination” function: pixel-level contrast
enhancement and sharpening to counteract aperture-related diffraction
effects)

- AE microadjustment; +/- 3 EV range with 1/6EV steps; separate saved
corrections for Evaluative, CWA, Partial and Spot metering

- new higher capacity, slightly higher-voltage (to drive the faster
mechanicals & electrical readouts for the higher framerate), chipped
Li-Polymer battery (LP-E7), with new, magnesium-alloy framed BG-E7
battery grip with AF-ON and mini-joystick selector buttons duplicated

- lastly, an all-new, pleasantly surprising “feature” that would bring
a smile to all the Canon loyalists (just watch for it) ;)

All these new cameras are coming out so thick and fast, it seems pointless.. DSLRs are becoming like graphics cards lol..

At least the Camera manufacturers seem to be adding features rather than just changing the name and re-branding it as a different product ;)

Doesn't seem reasonable, organic LEDs are a long way from commercial use.
“Diffraction Elimination” is also not possible as it is a physical limitation of the lens and sensor size, all what this can do is be another in camera sharpening which is better done in software.

7.Fps in 14 bit mode also seems quite fast, perfectly possible but these things are normally left for the pro cameras.

“One of the things I could tell you about is that in 2008, we purchased a manufacturing facility for OLEDs, so in Japan, we’re creating the infrastructure to be able to bring this online.” Chuck Westfall told CNET. “The issue for us is not just the perfection of the technology and lowering of the manufacturing costs, it’s also being able to generate the quantity of these devices to satisfy our needs across an entire range of consumer products.”

The benefits of OLEDs in cameras, as in televisions and monitors, is two-fold. For one, the colors are brighter, clearer and can be viewed at a wider angle without inversion; the picture is also sharper.

But on a three-inch display, that’s not as important as the second benefit: OLEDs slurp out a lot less power. What that means is that camera batteries should be able to last significantly longer in real-world use.

Consumers still have a bit of a wait ahead of them though. According to Westfall, Canon is just beginning to ramp up their production facility, and they are a while away from being able to satisfy their needs across their entire range of products. But OLED cameras are coming soon.

Fair, enough. Last time I read about this was a year ago and to me it seemed another 3 years or so to wait.

I think that camera is too good to be true....

A few things i am real doubtful about

1 - AF being the current 1 Series AF, it'll kill the 5Dii....
2 - The video being full 1080p, i thnk it's more likely to be 720p, like the D90 and D300s
3 - DiGIC V....5Dii is not even 12 months old yet and DiGIC IV is not slow by any means.

I agree with you on points 1 and 3, however point 2 could very well be true considering the 500D has 1080p video already (admittedly only 20 fps). It's not unfeasable that the 60D will have a slight video upgrade from the 500D. Also consider live view, it came out on the 40D, yet the 450D had a far better implementation than the 40D when it came out.

Most people don't buy the 5Dii for the video features, they buy it for the full frame goodness, so I can't see it being a problem.

If those stats and features are correct, and assuming they've sorted out the noise issue that's caused a few 50d gripes, then the 60d will be one brilliant crop camera. Wonder what the cost will be...?

I'd guess around £1200 to start with, and agree with Saddler that the price will drop to nearer the £900 mark within 3-6 months.

I was shocked at how expensive the 500D was when it was first released, but within no time at all it had dropped significantly.
