I've been given a 32gb model by work to trial before a possible move away from Blackberrys. I currently have a Bold, which i've had for about 6 months and have been fairly impressed with but the possibility of getting something shiny and new is always appealing :D

I've had the iphone since this morning (never used an iphone before) so i've just got used to the touch screen. I have to admit the touch screen is pretty funky but once i've got over the initial wow, the iphone is pretty meh. I was expecting it to be all singing and all dancing, what am I doing wrong ?

I would ask if this is why they're jail broken but that's no longer allowed :(

"I was expecting it to be all singing and all dancing"...what are you expecting of it??

Atleast to meet the hype and be worthy of the price tag

So far it looks as if we wont be getting them any way as the majority of the sales staff prefer their Blackberrys. I thought they were having a laugh and was ready to prove them wrong but i'm yet to be persuaded my self :(

I must admit it was a bit of an anti-climax when I got my iPhone, I suppose you forget that the thing is an actual music player as well as a phone. After downloading numerous apps the thing was a lot more fun to use. So many apps!

I suppose the apps make a phone, don't see the iPhone being any different to any other phone out there.

I noticed the keyboard flips round when you turn the phone round. Is there an app like those pens that you turn upside down and all the womens clothes fall off ? :)

Replacing BlackBerries for an iPhone... why would your company even consider this if it's an even halfway competent business?

What kind of revenue does the business generate, is it on small or a large scale? If it can afford it then BB's really cannot be compared to anything else as a pure mobile business tool... it is the closest thing to having an exchange server in your pocket, and the security policy/encryptions options are essential. iPhones in comparison, as well as having a higher initial cost, have no physical keyboard (a massive fail as a business messaging tool) and are not considered secure. The battery life is also nothing compared to a BB, and the batteries are as you know not replaceable.

An iPhone is probably one of the worst devices as a pure business tool you can get, for the love of God don't do it. There's a reason a BB costs £35 a month, there's nothing that compares to it, and the only thing that has a stab at replacing it is a Windows Mobile device with a good keyboard such as the HTC Touch Pro and Touch Pro II. :)

It's a medium sized company, has about 300 hand sets.

The only reason I liked the idea of changing was for the new phone, also would mean less work not having to manage the BES server. Apart from this I was still in favour of the BB as i'm not a fan of Apple in general, everything seems to be stupidly over priced. The hype of the new iphone was also persuading me the change would be good but it has yet backed up any of this up. Ultimately the decision is not down to me, sales rely on their handsets mine just makes my life easier.

The iPhone has never been hyped as a business tool, it only adds an upgrade dprocessor and camera, as well as basic software features. As a personal device it's one of the best available, as a business device it doesn't hold a candle to a BB imo. I organise the mobility for a financial company (600 people or so) and i've had a lot of opportunities to compare them directly because everyone sees our mobile phone list and then thinks: "Oooh iPhone ill buy that" only to be severely dissappointed when we tell them that they can't use email on it (against sompany policy). BES isn't THAT much work really besides the pain in the rear job of building the BB's sometimes. :)

I'm now having trouble putting music on it

I plugged it in and all that appears is the camera, i can't even drag and drop to it like a normal storage device. I loaded up itunes (after re-enabling a few apples services that i'd disabled) created a play list but there's no way to get it to the phone. I even tried copying music to the camera pic folder but it wouldn't let me lol

I had this poblem when I was given an ipod a few years back :o

The BB software is so much easier to use, another +1 for BB

did you try clicking the sync button in itune? ;)

That's what i'm looking for. When I first loaded itunes it said it couldn't connect to the iphone due to bonjour and apple mobile device services being disabled. I enabled these and itunes loaded fine. Now no where in itunes does it say the iphone is connected, i'm pretty sure when I used to connect my ipod up it used to be displayed down the left side.

Installed it on W7 and it does exactly the same.

Should the phone display a message that it's connected ? if i go to ipod on the phone it says no content and none of the options at the bottom work. All i can do is close and return to the main menu.

Is there a way i can manually add the phone into itunes ?

MW

hmm, in itunes down the left where it says library(the music, podcasts, apps etc on your computer), store and playlist you should get another when you connect the iphone/ipod(should say the name that you've given the iphone/ipod).

have you tried pluging/unpluging the iphone a few times? I find that sometimes it doesn't work the first time.

BES is fairly easy to manage, i'm appreciating it more now.

When's BB going to release it's new phones ?

MW

Well the next Bold like phone is going to be the Onyx but that wont be out till Nov time i would imagine...similar to the Bold but smaller, lighter and thinner and has more app memory..comes with 256 rather than 128 that the Bold.

Seriously though going iphone over BB's is a disaster waiting to happen..no one in their right mind would go for an iphone over a BB.
