WoW Account hacked :O

Getting your account back is guaranteed. Gear is another story. Back in TBC when we were taking on Vashj and Kael our MT got hacked, being an officer the hacker emptied the guid bank and raped our friends character. He got his toon back but not the gear, he could never prove what he had, it crushed him and he quit a month later. Respect for Blizz to get his account back but they were unwilling to go much beyond the original effort of getting the account.

Possibly, but in my old guild had two friends who were hacked and despite being at the top end of raiding guilds at the time (when most guilds were a mile behind) Blizz were not too arsed about sorting gear and more bothered about getting the account back.

Much kudos to blizz for sorting the accounts, but their lack of caring when given a mass of evidence (6 other guilds totalling almost 200 players) in regard not only to gear but the known hackers was somewhat disappointing. But at least they put some effort in.

TBH mate get your account back, gear is not important, the friends and the contacts you have are.

Then obviously you give more of a **** about the shiny purples than you do about experiencing the game. Whilst I don't play WoW and don't know the OP maybe he gices more of a **** about the game than you do of your bragging rights :rolleyes:

Bragging rights? Swearing? Really necessary?

I haven't played WoW either, But if I were to play a game for so long & get gear, then one day it all goes kaput, I'd be majorly messed off. Surely I'm not alone on that?

All that time, effort, money & it goes in a blink of an eye?

come off it. There should be records of what your character has achieved/looted in the game.

I know in SWG they have records.
 
Little bit OT but the Eve forums have been spammed with links that gave keyloggers access to your PC and I read briefly that the WoW forums have had similar threads appearing.
Totally undertstand how the OP feels as my Eve account after 3 years was accessed last week and all my assets sold and money transferred into someone elses account.

Got my money and ships returned but it's a huge blow & I've lost serious heart with the game.
 
They defo have records or items, probably more down to lazy GM's. My account got done over (pretty sure it was a 'friend' who guessed my pw) and I got all but one of my items back plus my gold
 
I would quit too. How can you even play with those friends in raids if you have no gear!

I quit wow 6 months ago after turning into a recluse.
 
i want atleast some of my gear back lol
they should keep records like everytime u log off it should save then they can put it back kinda like system restore in windows :)
 
hiya blizz do have records of stuff you sell delete etc.....
i got peed off with game pre tbc and deleted zapped sold everything gave me cash to me g/f and deleted me chars

got account restored with all items etc ...had to pay gold cost of everything to a gm.

but they will only do this once on an account even if its a accidently shopped item

so there may be hope for you.... if u get a useless gm try again some r good and some cant be bothered to help you
 
I'm sorry, but I don't really get how this is Blizzard's fault, and that they should be expected to get all the stuff back after YOUR account was hacked? If you can't be sensible and not visit dodgy links sent to you, or keep your PC clean from spyware or viruses then it is your own damn fault. Blizzard shouldn't even have to get you your account back. It is your own fault if you manage to get your account hacked and all your stuff sold off.

It really doesn't take much effort to ensure you have a decent AV package running at all times, and to scan your PC for spyware once a week. If you're going to be visiting dodgy links or sites, then you're just asking for it if you have nothing on your PC to protect you afterward.

If you can't be bothered to scan your PC, then pay out the £15 it costs for the authenticator. It isn't 100% secure but it is a bit better than just logging in using your password. But don't expect everything to work if you're not actually sticking to a good security regime.
 
Just to add to my post above, if you don't have any decent antivirus or anti-spyware programs, then have a look at http://free.avg.com for AVG Free Edition, and www.safer-networking.org for Spybot Search & Destroy. Running these two programs regularly on your PC will safe you a lot of trouble in the long run. They're free and are very good programs that work well together. And get Comodo Firewall from www.comodo.com. It is also free and very good. It'll allow you to stop any pesky keyloggers from transmitting information if they try to do so.

Also, make sure you use a decent browser like Firefox or Chrome. If you're using Firefox, I would recommend getting NoScript for it as it'll also stop really dodgy content on websites.

theres a guide on keeping your pc safe on the wow forums from blizard aswell, they do all they can but the majority of it is down to you
 
Ive seen people hacked and get gear back, but it takes a week or so, it depends if that week is acceptable delay to you.

I bought an authenticator, in fact I bought 4 and sold three to guildies in the UK. The postage from Blizz is bnokers but its the same for all four (four is max you can buy)
So we all benefitted by getting an authenticator cheaper than buying individually.

Blizzard claim no ones account has been compromised that has one. They use same technology as banking versions use so should be very safe. Nothing is ever 100% but surely 99.99% safe...

I am almost certain they do keep a record (of sorts) but it is not account based, So to restore everything on a single account they would have to roll back everyone elses accounts too if i remember right.
