Standard tailpipes are rubbish :/

Insurance blokey is (finally) coming on Monday, so I put the standard tailpipe back on Floella just in case.

It sounds pony!

I know lots of people complain about noisy tailpipes on bikes and so on, but come on, honestly. My dad's VFR with stock pipes sounds like a bloody generator, and now my Fazer Thou sounds positively inoffensive, and that's criminal. She's been de-clawed!

Can't wait til the ****er looks at it and goes home so I can put my akropovic back on!

Does *anyone* keep the standard pipes on any bike that's even remotely sporty?

Yes. My standard cans on the ZZR1100 sound great.
I don't remotely want to change them at all.

Why not declare the mod (and therefore make your insurance valid) so you don't have to listen to the "pony" exhaust?

It is declared, and I pay for it. But because it says 'track use' on it, I didn't want to chance it. It was on when I got it MOTd a couple of weeks ago and passed both emissions and noise.

If it is declared then surely there shouldn't be a problem.

It's declared as strictly road legal, and it's not, strictly. Because of the label.

Which is annoying - if I took a file to the bit that says 'track use only' it would be 100% legit, because it passed emissions and noise.

And it's an insurance inspector coming round to sort out the payment for the claim. EVERYTHING he can find will be a problem, if he had his way he'd write me a cheque for 50p.

Won't there be a problem if he expects to find this declared exhaust and finds the standard in it's place?

I doubt he'll bat an eyelid, I just don't want him to spot a 'not for road use' stamp anywhere, that's all. I shouldn't think it would have been a problem really to leave the akropovic on there but this whole claim's been going on since November and I'm not having any hiccups now!

In fairness, the exhaust doesn't sound that bad, I went out and about on it today and it sounds alright. Just sounded much nicer before :(

I had to put my baffles in for the mot ... god it was horrid... kept hearing stuff i had never heard before...engine sounded strained and restricted and just felt more vunerable . As soon as he handed me the cert i took them back out and popped em back to where the belong .
