Drivers For 2d games i get low fr's on games like counterstrike i was told to roll back drivers but dont know witch driver to go with i have windows vista

sounds like you using a 32bit driver on a 64 bit os ;/

Find out which version of vista you have then download the apporate drivers for you os

Your card is designed pretty much to accelerate 3D performance why would you want to turn it off? Of course it will accelerate 2D graphics but pretty much any 2D engine about will be D3D or OpenGL accelerated anyway so you're getting an orthogonal projection of a 3D scene anyway, like looking dead on at the surface of a cube.

I play a low end game so i need to disable it i can turn it back on later i have been to their forums they told me my card is to powerful for this game i need to disable some of the features

As previously stated, all modern graphics cards that I know of (you're talking 8 years?) treat 2D as a special case of 3D. If you think about it, 2D is identical to 3D but without the Z (depth) axis.

Which game are you struggling with? Have you checked whether there is a patch to solve issues for modern cards? I should think that if it is a popular game there will be many solutions available.

Ok been told to downgrade the drivers to the oldest one and it works whats the oldest driver and whats the best way to uninstall the current driver with leaving no trace of the other driver

8.7 drivers are the oldest driver for the 4800 series..

i would just go to add and remove programs then uninstall it from there then reboot then install the 8.7 drivers...

tbh i don't think putting a oldest driver on will fix it.

Is this possible?

Surely the better the card the better the performance not vice versa?

OP still hasn't said which game he is talking about... I'm aware of some (very) old games which don't work properly with modern hardware if they have hard coded timings - i.e. everything goes 20x faster than it should in the game, or the mouse pointer zips way too fast, that sort of thing.

@OP Which forums, which game... that would really make it far simpler for people to help!

and you sure 8.7 drivers are the oldest ones cause im having compability problems with this driver for vista yes new hardware is bad for this game but its a legendary game we have played for 5 years

what kind of problem are you having with the game? if its just running too fast then its more likely to be the cpu speed rather than the graphics card. If you try something like http://www.cpukiller.com it should allow you to slow the computer down so the older game runs at a more intended speed.
