new buld 98 degrees cpu

Does the heatsink use internal fluid to transfer heat?
If so then it may be pointing the wrong way & the fluid cant move.

As far as 98c in concerned, my quad has run at 98c under load for 2 years now.

this is a little far out but your not / bios not confusing celsius and fahrenheit?

100 fahrenheit is 37 odd celsius- this sounds more like it for a quad?

What heatsink are you using ? What case ? Whats the air flow like ?
they can all contribute, however 98C is a tad on the warm side =/
Does it ever vary ot any other temp ?

would have thought that when op touched fins they would have been at least hot if temp was reading 98.

Also would have thought that if it reached 98 immediately on start up the thermal stress incurred heating that quickly would cause major problems. . .

Has OP even tried using core temp or real temp to monitor his temps or just reading them from BIOS?
Sounds like a borked sensor to me.

have you accidently overclocked it to 7ghz without realising what you've done? :p

That is a frightening temp you've got there though!

No it's clocked correctly :P.

You have removed the plastic film of the base of the heatsink yes?
Yes I have removed the plastic film.

HSF is a scythe ninja rev b. silverstone tj09 case and the airflow is great. The temperature does not vary and is in centigrade.

As capriboy1978 said, it sounds like fahrenheit to me - my Q9550 runs at 96.8 idle.

Try some different programs: CoreTemp, EVEREST, HWMonitor, RealTemp, SpeedFan. I find CoreTemp, Everest, HWMonitor and RealTemp all accurate for my Q9550. Make sure you get the latest versions, older versions were reading incorrectly for me.

Does not vary? At all? Not even if you've got no programs running or if you've just been running Prime for an hour?
Well I've not installed windows yet. I've just got back from a year in Vienna and my install disks are at home but I'm at my Grandma's.

The temperate does not vary at all though :S.

I don't think so as the mobo/system temp are 33/50...

I'll double check tomorrow I need to go to bed soon.

presuming you can't set unit of measurement independently for cpu/bios then it's sounding more and more like a sensor issue or software.

Don't suppose the bios readings aren't current temps? Maybe shutdown temps or default values? Just blue skying here.

thought OP had already tried a newer bios though, maybe not this beta though.

sounded like a software issue, bet OP his glad he's not the only one and someone has gotten round it.

What does the CPU sensor say ? Use coretemp or similar but sod the mainboard cpu sensor... They often mess up and always under display by about 15-20 c anyways.

Cheers for the link to the other thread I'm trying the other bios out. Previously I used the runme.bat How can I use the other bios file that's linked? Is it just a case of editting runme.bat?
