Hey all,

Went and put a deposit down on a MK3 Mondeo yesterday which was listed as a 2.0 Zetec, when I've got home to sort the insurance out it's coming back as a 1.8 Zetec on the registration search.

So, the garage have the wrong details - all the paperwork we sorted out for the deposit etc has it down as a 2.0 - their ad on the website has it listed as a 2.0 and I've just called to speak to the sales guy but he's not in today, spoke to someone else and he said yeah it's a 1.8

So I'm a bit cheesed off as I wasn't interested in a 1.8 - I guess my options are get my deposit back and just forget about it or try and get them to knock a few hundred quid off?

I really liked the car, just not happy it's not a 2.0 now :(

Suggestions? I assume as it's their **** up I can just get my deposit back without hassle. The guy is phoning me back in around 20 minutes.

Are you sure it's a 1.8? My Honda comes back as a 1.8 on many an insurance database but it's a 2.0

should be a full refund as advertised incorrectly. why didnt you do a cheap online / text confirmation on the vehicle though?
hell, you could have done a quick check through DVLA for nothing :p

agreed with the power / function question though, if its not really that different and they are willing to drop the price to relevent prices for 1.8 then it might be worth keeping.

Absolutely no idea! I've done a reg search and it comes back as a 1.8 and when the wife rang the insurance company they said it was a 1.8.

Not sure on the difference in power to be honest if it's negligable I may just ask for some money knocked off but to be honest I'm just not happy with the whole thing now.

That is pretty poor. I would be firm but polite and say that you want a full refund before mentioning that you would be up for some cash back to accept the car. I am sure they will do all they can to keep the sale, so let them sweat it out and offer you something before you start the haggle.

Didn't you lift the bonnet when you looked at the car?

Assuming you test drove it then ignore the engine size for a moment and think whether or not you were happy with the performance.

No idea why I didn't do a search on that one, every other car I've been to look at this week I have, I was just in a rush yesterday I guess :(

Absolutely.

One minute your well chuffed with your car, to the point you have paid a deposit and got the insurance sorted out the next, "OMG! its not a 2.0"

Sounds to me like you were happy with the car & its performance (again, test drive assumed) imo, the only real issue here should be how much the garage are going to take off the price for telling porkies.

Yeah, you're both right in a way - just cheesed off with the whole thing really. Nothing ever goes simple for me :p Still waiting for the guy to call me back.

Guy from the garage just called me back, he said it's definitely a 1.8 and was listed incorrectly. They're not willing to knock anything off the price at all!

Told him I'm not happy and I'm getting my deposit back. If they'd have knocked something off I'd have taken it but for them to stick to the same price after admitting the error is taking the mick.

They're not exactly rare, so get your deposit back and find one that suits you

Oddly, my car on a reg search for insurance sometimes comes back as either a 2.2 TDCi Zetec, or a 1.8 TDCi LX - despite the fact that neither of those cars actually exist and mines a 2.0 TDCi Zetec-S.

There is a 2.2TDCi?

If you like the car i would use it as an excuse to get a couple of quid knocked off it, or some free future services or something thrown in.
