im after an Acer and am wondering what youd suggest. the 6935g or the 6930G

basically im after a laptop thats pretty good at running games and media, although i think the 6935g looks better im just wondering what you guys would suggest going for from personal experiance. im willing to go up to the 600 pound range so whatever you thinks best.

Just a note - The 6930G has two HDD bays, the 6935G only has one.

If you want to add another HDD, then the 30G is the better bet, but it also requires that you buy a new secondary HDD cover from Acer parts, as the default cover has struts that doesn't let a HDD fit! The replacement cover is £19.23 inc VAT :)

£18.99 inc VAT just bought for my Dad's. Be AWARE the 6930G comes in different flavours with either a 9300 GS GFX card or a 9600GT. Make sure you get the right one ! Also some come with blu ray drives and some with TV tuner plus a whole range of CPU's from dual core to core 2 duo.

What I like about the 6930G is that a lot of the internal components are upgradable. You can upgrade the CPU, GFX Card, WiFI as well has HDD and memory. Not many laptops let you upgrade the GFX card.

However the trackpad on the 6930G is awful. You lose the boundaries of it quite easily and end up having to look back down and move your hand to the right position as its the same colour as the case at the end. Not a problem for my Dad as he uses it with a USB mouse.
 
If you plan to do any reasonable amount of gaming on it then get the 6935. Reason being is that I believe most, if not all 9600's on the 6930 come with GDDR2 memory, while all the 6935's come with GDDR3. The GDDR2 runs at 400Mhz and the GDDR3 at 800Mhz, so twice the memory bandwidth.

Whilst that's a fair point, if you get the 30G with a 1366x768 screen rather than the 1920, there's nothing the 9600 can't handle. I can max out most games on mine - the limiting factor is the 2Ghz cpu, not the gpu :)
 
6935g is truly stunning, comes with DDR3 and fast graphics.

6930g is still nice looking, comes with DDR2, slightly slower graphics. With a change in back panel and an HDD cage you can put a second HDD in (internally) though.

You can always upgrade the graphics on the 6930g (HD 4650 (£160), 9600m GT GDDR3 (£120)).

How does that work? The card uses Turbocache (ie. utilises system RAM), and the 6930g uses DDR2 system ram..
 
The card is an MXM2 module, the graphics ram and system ram don't have to be the same type (just like you can use a GDDR5 card in a desktop with DDR3).

If you have to dip into system ram your card is going to be putting out pathetic frames at that point anyway (its pure marketing with no benefit).
 
im going for the 6935G with the T6400 processor for £599 from a competitor. Looks like a decent deal
 
Just got the 6935G on thursday after dropping my rather old laptop on the floor and geting some money from my insurance. Decided to put a little extra in to get this one as it was on offer anyway. I have been very impressed, nothing came close for the money with other brands. Bargain!

I have played DOW on it no problems. Mine came with the 9600m 1GB, so I'm pretty sure it will handle most games I throw at it.

I thought the 6930G laptops had the 9600 cards? They are DDR2?

I may opt for a 6935 if the graphics are better than the 6930 (1GB 9600)
 
cheers guys think ill be going for the 6935g then, just gota wait for my bloody replacement debit card as the cashpoint swallowed it a few days back. stupid technology hehe ;)
 
I got my 6935G yesterday and i have to say, im very impressed with it. Sound quality is amazing for a laptop. Gaming performance is acceptable. I can play UT3, Assassin's Creed, WoW and CoD4 at acceptable details. Im happy :)

Can you guys post the manufacture part numbers you go for as there are lots of different models so a number would be great, thanks
 
no, the 6935G only has GDDR2 for graphics.

I think mine is the 6935G-644G25Bn only with the 9600M GS instead off the GT and 3gb of DDR3 instead of 4gb
