VW Golf Mk6 GTD - opinions?

tough decision, but if you can get an octavia with better spec without having to pay a penny, it's certainly worth thinking about.

take both out for a spin and see whether the golf really is worth paying for.
i'd take the golf over an octavia any day, but probably not if the skoda was free

also, Miele appliances and kitchens are the ****. the new ones are quite stylish, certainly better than they did 20 years ago. unfortunately, because they last 20 years, i still have to put up with their ugly aesthetics :p

given the cars/brands to choose from if you want frugal the golf GTD isnt a bad option..

i mean what else can you get, potentially a leon FR or similar? that would be great and a good alternative to your current motor id say! (give up some performance but ah well you cant have everything)...

other than that, Toyota dont make anything of interest, Octavia vRS (but id take a leon i reckon) or the golf...

can u gett he scirocco? that could be a 3rd option? the 2.0 turbo @ 200bhp is only 170co2 emissions so not a million miles away from the golf GTD!

This forum would be a much nicer place without the likes of Fox! Why don't you just join the BMW fan club and be done with it. Anything that you consider not up to standard with ur BMW, you make smart assed remarks about which help no one and just makes you look a snobby ****. There are plenty of ppl out there with much better cars than you have. I guess they just keep their smart assed opioions to themselves.

LOL he didnt even bring up BMW in this thread until someone else did.

If the vRS is the same price or cheaper but better specced I'd choose that.

Hi,

Does anyone have any experience of the Golf GTD (The one that seems to have just come out)? I've had a bit of a look and they seem quite nice, look reasonable, the torque figure is high and the mpg is good etc etc.

The choice isn't great - VW, Skoda, Seat or Toyota. Top of the VW list is a Golf GTD, the 170hp Diesil GTI wannabe type car (company policy is <160g/km CO2, so no big petrols, sadly). This will cost me £70 a month (as it's over the limit for the lease) and around £70 a month in BIK tax. I'll probably spec the 18" wheels and cruise control, so call the total spend ~£150/month.

So, any opinions on the Golf? Anyone driven one? After views on this particular engine as well if possible (I believe the same one is used in the Octavia VRSesque oil burner). Or any ideas on what I should do? Keep the ST and watch its value drop like a stone as I pile the miles onto it? Get the GTD and miss the performance the ST has but at least save a load of dosh in the process  Meh

Advice / Opinions welcome! :)

Hi, I've been on some small hatch testdrives recently (Astra, Focus, Golf , Seat (no Toyota/Skoda)) and would say one thing stands a mile out on the new Mark6, nothing can touch for its quiet refinement, so if you're doing big miles and have to have small hatch get the Golf!

If you wanna stick with petrol, the 160TSI is under <160g/km CO2 and has similar performance.

Whilst I appreciate the fact you blew 17 grand on a grey rental car means you need to convince yourself its awesome at every opportunity can you not do it in a less ridiculous way? Wet dreams about bmw? With comments like that are you sure its not your mums Golf?

You say some beauties yourself old bean :P

I know you are a bit stroppy because you've come home from the lovely upside-down-land, but you really have to start reading your posts and thinking "Does that come across as being antagonistic?" before pressing the "Submit Reply" button.

Then these lovely people wouldn't get bent out of shape, and wouldn't have to resort to the cheap shot of calling you a BMW Whore™, which although isn't a relevant argument, it is simply the quickest, easiest way to get at you.

You can't argue that you bring it on yourself, sometimes I wonder if you like the confrontation :p

His comments on many posts I have read are annoying and unhelpful, he tries to be funny at the expense of people actually trying to help the OP. I am sure I am not alone when I say SHUT UP FOX!!

I do not mention or refer to my car in threads which are not really about BMW's. Search this thread for BMW and you'll find all the results give you other people.

In this thread the OP even agrees entirely with what I've said - its just everyone else, as per usual, that has to stick their oar in with more junk about how if it isnt a 5 Series its rubbish or something.

In this thread I've said that diesel hatchbacks are not really that great compared to the sort of experience he gets from his Focus ST, but that he probably wont do much better than the Golf so he should buy the Golf. What exactly in that is inaccurate? He's even completely agreed with my sentiments.

If you don't like what I post - ignore me. If you feel I overstep the mark and break the forum rules, report me to the moderators who will give me a telling off if I've gone OTT (Which I concede I sometimes do). Otherwise, focus the effort you waste on banging on about BMW's on offering the OP what you think to be superior advice.

I think the point you're missing is there's a big difference between "no good cars in this sector" and "I dont like any cars in this sector"

The mid sized hatchback sector is huge and there are a lot of very good cars in it. If you dont like them, fine, but you need to convey opinions as opinions and not facts; otherwise you risk being unhelpful if your comments are misinterpreted as fact.

Everything I post is opinion unless otherwise stated. I cannot understand how anyone with a basic grasp of English could misinterpret the phrase 'Its not great but then this sort of car generally isnt but I doubt you'll find much in its class thats appreciably better - I'd go for it' as fact. How could it possibly come across as fact? It is a subjective statement!

Well no it just means its a class which is not one filled with particularly great cars.

I'm just saying, that sort of statement can be interpreted as a statement of fact - statements like that obviously wound some people up the wrong way in this thread and I was just trying to explain why some people react the way they have been

How? It is quite obviously opinion. What makes a great car is subjective and cannot therefore be a fact. Judgement on whether something is great or poor can only ever be opinion.

Loose the sarcasm that you portray in most of your posts and you might make a few friends instead of enemies. you say you don't mention your BMW but I'm sorry you mention it in every post by the fact you have a picture of one and BMW530i sport in ur sig.

So by the same token in every post you make you go on about your graphics card and custom watercooling

Do you understand the concept of a signature? Given you have one yourself I'd have assumed you did.

You do seem to have a slight down on most things not BMW though, it has to be said :)

What a hypocritical comment - you refer to your PC in your signature?

Many things, yes. But I can appreciate many different cars. As you'll appreciate when I can be bothered to write a few reviews of the things I've been driving for the last week where I fell in love with something with a crap plastic interior and dodgy badge on the bonnet.

But I don't say a Q6600 is crappy class cpu but I guess its about the best in that crap class just coz I have a better one, plus ocuk is more a pc based forum than a motor forum and most ppl do have there pc spec in the sig on here even you do.
