FCC Investigating Apple's Rejection of Google Voice iPhone Application

Personally, I think Apple shouldn't have so much control over the vetting of applications for the app store. I think it's hugely anti-competitive.

They'll continue to attempt to keep control of it. I'd suspect that rival music services will also be rejected too.

Hopefully they'll be forced to put all the rules in writing up front, as opposed to the weird black box approval process in place just now

Im a fan of apples hardware and software but if its so good then why do they have to be so anti competitive, if it carries on its going to give them a bad name.

Apple always want to very tightly control your experience. Mac > Mac OS X, iPod > iTunes, App Store > iPhone, heck... even Mail > Address Book > iCal etc. It's just how they operate and from it you get the good things (application integration, ease of use) and the bad things (it's Apple's way or go somewhere else).

An article I read ages ago did make me think though. For Apple to exist as it currently does it needs Microsoft to exist and be dominant. Imagine if Apple had around 80-90% computer marketshare, the EU would have a massive field day with:

iTunes
iTunes + iPod
iTunes + iPhone
iPhone + App Store
Safari
Mail + iCal + Address Book
iLife
Quicktime Player

Pretty much everything that Apple prides itself on is ultimately closed and anti-competitive... it's just not that big to be taken notice of!

Except the iPhone.
