Thailand

I live in Pattaya. Thought I mentioned this before in your previous thread. How are you enjoying Bangkok? 1 month is too long there for me, cant do more than a few days before it gets to me.

A month, you must be insane. I lasted 4 days before going to chiang mai then the islands. I dont see why people stay in bangkok when there are all the islands a £5 bus journey away

Been to thailand twice, managed 3 days in bangkok the first time, 8 hours the second time, dirty smelly city...some nice parts but give me the beach!!!

Yeah I was there a couple of weekends ago, in Hong Kong for now but off to Beijing tommorow. Also from what I saw, Bangkok was waay cleaner than Manilla. That didn't appeal to me at all.

I like Bangkok, but a month???

last time I stayed 2 days to rest after the flight and I enjoyed it but I enjoyed everywhere else much more :)

I was there a few days ago if that helps! :p

Seriously though, a month is quite a long time in bangkok. English teacher?

I will be there from 13th October to 3rd November, no firm plans at the moment, just going to wing it.

That's all me and a mate done, with a little research and a half decent guide book it was a breeze

It felt good knowing there was no set times to move on to somewhere else and that we could stay longer in places we liked

Last time I stayed in Bangkok I stayed in flats in one of the central parts of the city, Ding Dang.

It was quite rough but I loved it, loved hearing the city at night and all the lights. Loved waking up and going down the market saying hello to locals and buying breakfast.

I stayed in one of the higher but still rougher flats like where this photo must have been taken from

I feel the same about Pattaya. I couple of days is enough before the constant hassle from hawkers starts to get to me. Bangkok is fine. loving it here. :)

And to the people saying I'm mad to stay here for so long... Well I live in my girlfriends apartment. So free rent > Hotels. :p

Plus Spice Club is the greatest nightclub on the planet.

Have been out to Pattaya/Jomtien, but the prostitution problem there is insane. Depressingly out of control. Much worse than Bangkok.

Thats because youre going to the wrong places mate. Then again I have a job out here and live in one of the nicest condos, in a good area, so I dont have to mingle with the low life.
Im not going to bother arguing a point because people just make their minds up on first impressions, fair enough, if you dont like the heat, get out of the kitchen. FYI Bangkok is just as bad but its kept to 3 main areas, apart from street prostitution. Its more noticable in Pattaya because Pattaya is much much smaller.

Wasn't having a go. I couldn't care less which city is 'best'. I'm sure they both have good things going for them. I enjoyed Pattaya, but I was sitting on the beach with my girlfriend, and just wanted to relax and enjoy the view but every 30 seconds or so (no exaggeration) it was "ice cream sir?", "tattoo sir?", "seafood sir?", "set a bird free sir?", "random crap sir?".

Really wound me up, so the next day we went to a quieter spot in Jomtien (and still got hassled, although not quite as badly).

It's the taxi's that I hate most though. All I want is to cross the road, and they slow down making it difficult. No I don't want a damn taxi, I want to get to the other side of the street in one piece!

Anyway, if I've been going to the wrong places in Pattaya, maybe you could show me some of the right ones next time I'm there? ;)

I know you werent having a go mate, I do get fed up though of everyone bashing the place when they have never been or visited for a day or 2.
I agree about the beach, its a real PITA, which is why I never go to them, despite living about 50m to the sea front. I go to the beaches in Sattahip or to Koh Samet, try and frequent the places that Thais go to and dont tell anyone else about! Some of the beaches in Sattahip wont even let you on if youre not Thai
No problem, if youre ever back here let me know, I work 60 hour weeks so I like to have a good time on Saturday nights!
