Move over Burns - haggis is English, historian claims

lol

Its just because people are proud of their countries.

Also, pound coins in scotland are the same as pound coins in england. Only the notes differ as they are printed by different banks.

Id say it seems more like Scotland in particular want to try so hard to prove their arn't English and always appear to be irrationally patriotic and anti English. Like i always seem to notice Scottish flags everywhere like they need to tell us they are Scottish though I guess its because I don't pick up on the english flags. Of course just my opinion on a whole. Not aimed at you.

Another thing i notice is that the Scottish will only call them selves British when its beneficial haha :P But i guess why should they, they are after all from Scotland. Though I call my self British usually, not sure why.

But not England eh?

What about Football's coming home? (leaving aside the fact that the Scots invented that too and was stolen).

Everybody blows their trumpet about inventions and things, it just so happens that the Scots have more than most.

Tarmac, Telephones, Skarves, TVs, Tyres, Golf, Postage Stamp, Raincoat (of some kind)

As per my Scotland T-shirt bought from a random tourist store lol

Quite interesting, i was under the impression several of these were English. Though might point out there is several more things in the world that may have been invented then that :P

Odd, coz I see far more George Cross's in England than Saltire's in Scotland.

When Andy Murray is doing well, he is British, but when he gets put out "The Scot is beaten in the 5th set..."

Scottish people are proud to come from a nation with great history, beautiful scenery and friendly people.

Engerlish people are proud of what, Carling, football hooliganism and being patronising to the Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish?

I never call myself British. Any country who has to mention how "Great" they are in their name has an inferiority complex. Great Britain lol

It is most probably just depends from which side you are looking at it then.

Haha true about Andy Murray, though personally I don't count him as playing for us as he is anti English. This is what im talking about though, its an irrational need of some Scotsmen to support the other team to the english or out right state they aren't playing for the english. It's just not needed and petty.

As for history, I wont pretend to know much but i think your being very closed minded if you want to claim England has no history.

The British/National news make it quite clear where their allegiance lies though.

Always a huge build up to England football games when England are playing with full coverage in the sports section then 30 seconds of "And Scotland/Northern Ireland/Wales drew/won/lost against <insert team here>" and thats it.

Haha very true. But it wasn't our generations that picked it. If anything i might hazard a guess that it came about when Britain was a super power with its coloneys? Maybe? I don't know.

But you point out what im talking about. Why is it such a strong feeling to be anti British? You didn't really give a true answer. Seems like most are anti because everyone else is or because they are brought up in a culture that supports it. Im not anti Scottish, just dislike their "antiness" to me lol.

This is however going way off course. Maybe a topic for another day.

Yeah that's quite unfair, never really thought about it as i cant say football interests me.

Im guessing you do have your own Scottish devoted channels?

I'm not "anti British/English" I just call myself Scottish.

I'm not really a fan of British history outside of the wars since Britain were basically the bullies of the world at one point colonising countries and enslaving people, "discovering" new countries and kicking/enslaving the natives calling them "savages" etc.

Yeah we have our own news when it usually switches to the more local news places - London, Wales or whatever the local news is for your own area.

I think the BBC and memdia tend to blow all the Englishness sports coverage (World Cup, English rugby games etc) out of proportion but thats not the people's fault to be fair.

Edit: Wow this has been derailed.

Back to the topic at hand: Haggis, sounds horrible, tastes good. Try it and then make your judgements.

Yeah i totally agree, i dislike what they did. But don't forget Scotland would be a very different place if they hadn't. England/Britain is very powerful considering its size. If they hadn't made those steps orginaly England would be a nobody and Scotland would be "who?"

Yeah does seem a little lame but it isn';t our fault.

To be honest the thought of eating haggis does make me feel ill. But when yoi think about it, sausages would make me feel ill too i gues. But its just mmm, doubt ill ever try it.

I think Scotland would have supported them more if the English hadn't then looked across the Border and said "I'll 'av some of that!" and tried to then make the Scots into what the English wanted them to be by banning Kilts, Bagpipes etc.

Personally I blame religion. :)

I quite like haggis, not something I would put on my shopping list though. Good quality haggis is really quite nice, the tinned/ supermarket stuff us guff though.

As to it's origins, well I don't really care, just like I don't care who invented what I just like the fact that someone made my life easier by doing it. To say the Scots have not invented a lot of those things listed is a bit silly though, I'm no historian but even I know most those were invented here.

Hate the English? no mate I don't hate the English & to be perfectly honest I don't know anyone who hates the English. I don't like this view that we hate the English, My other half is English & we have a little boy, does that mean I hate half of him?

I see nothing wrong with loving your country ( I think it is a shame when people don't), as long as you don't have to put someone else's down to make yours seem better.

peace out & all love to the Haggis (wherever is comes from lol)

beer battered Hagis balls at Maison Bleue in Edinburgh converted me they we to die for nice, mind you so was the fillet steak and chocolate pudding that followed!

Is it surprising when you make up about 8% of the UK's population? and Northern Ireland and Wales respectively make up even less than that, only about 15% of the UK's population if you put all three together.

The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few ;)

I am not even sure why this is an issue other than a relatively unamusing "light" news story. Does it matter that it was the English that invented the Haggis? It certainly isn't an english food now, so why care?

Of course it is - with two legs shorter than the other two allowing them to run around the steep slopes of the Scottish mountains early in the morning.

Remember the clockwise ones taste better than the anticlockwise ones ;)

The clockwise ones are male and the anticlockwise female. They can only mate while passing each other running round the hills.

Used to get so many tourists up in Inverness asking where was the best place to watch the haggis. And good haggis does taste fabulous!
