Cancel your Orange contract now!

Got the text today, no idea what to do.. I never use mobile internet cos its so expensive (i dont get any data allowance from what i can tell).

hanges to your monthly plan============================
From 14 September we'll be changing the cost of mobile internet browsing
and some calls outside of the allowance included in your plan.

Mobile internet browsing down to just 58.7p a day
=================================================
From 23 September our mobile browsing charges are changing. Instead of
paying £2.94 per MB up to a maximum of £1.47 per day, you will be
charged a flat rate of 58.7p per day, subect to a 25MB fair use policy.
If you have a mobile internet browsing bundle this will also be the
daily rate applied if you go over your allowance. [1]

Calls in the UK
===============
From 14 September if you exceed your inclusive minutes, the minimum call
charge will be 14.7p for calls made to mobiles, fixed lines and your
Answer Phone. If you regularly use more than your inclusive minutes we
have alternative call plans that could benefit you. [2]

Does the call charges to 08 numbers count as calls outside your inclusive minutes?

My point is surely if i get the text sometime between now and then then I can cancel?

When did they first announce these changes, I want to see if its before or after I took out this contract, as if its after then I will be able to cancel and be left with a sparkly n97.

i think it is for people who took out a contract in april/may time. not 100% sure though.

edit,

from what i read on another forum.

righto, just wondered where i stand, really not sure if i like this n97 at the moment and with the iphones being so highly priced for what they are, with the hero not receiving the greatest reviews either..

Hi all

Thought I’d post my experience of trying to cancel my contract (12 months into an 18 month one).

First call
Asked the gentleman politely if I could cancel my contract he says “sure, received a txt message” as soon as I told him I hadn’t he got very hostile and no matter how I tried to reason with him he would not back down at all.
Me: Why can’t I cancel?
Orange: You don’t qualify and that’s why you didn’t get a message
Me: So if I call “insert number” it will cost me exactly the same as it does now come September?
Orange: Yes
Me: How can that be when the changes are hitting all pay monthly customers?
Orange: Look!! If you didn’t get a txt message you cannot cancel SIR!!!!

<Insert arguing……………..and hang up>

Second call
Would you Adam n Eve it through to the same guy instantly hung up on him

Third call
Got through to a lady this time, I used exactly the same opening as before.
On hearing I didn’t get a txt message she said she would double check the system……………WIN!!!! I should have received a message on the 17th July (which I didn’t, I’ve never deleted messages on my phone since I’ve owned it so I know I didn’t get one).
She then asked me if £5 off my tariff could convince me to stay.
I thanked her but said I would have to decline it and so she went on to cancel my phone :-D.
The woman was so nice why oh why I couldn’t get her instead of the idiot before hand.
I don’t know how Orange are getting away with turning people away " because they didn’t get a txt message" just because someone hasn’t made a qualifying call in the past it doesn’t mean they wont in the future.

Good luck with your cancellation calls and I hope you all avoid the idiot I got the first time round :-P

I just got the text, awesome. Now, once I've cancelled shall I get a cheap contract or another nice phone which I can flog :D

Well, I did call and got fobbed off with the system is busy so I'll just call back in a minute. Offered me free 500mb a month internet though.

I want to know this too magic, as i dont go over my minutes limit (why would I? if i did i would have chosen a different contract:confused:)

But I guess you can still cancel, as you can argue the costs are too high SHOULD i ever go over.

It doesn't matter you don't have to justify yourself I did it last night easily just saying I wasn't happy with the changes made.

It doesn't matter whether you go over your minutes.

Orange are being idiots tbh. Their contract states that once you are told (and this can include being told over the phone (s16)) then you can cancel as long as you give written notice. They are thus just about in the right to say they wont let you cancel over the phone unless you receive the text as they have no contractual obligation to let you cancel over the phone. I said I'd write in though and they said if I did then all they'd do is check if I'd received the text and would still refuse to cancel it if I hadn't. This would clearly put them in breach of contract - something that the supervisor I spoke to didn't seem to care about at all. I've now spoken to Ofcom and have a complaint number, but something tells me Orange aren't going to care about that either.

anyone on dolphin managed to cancel there contract? mrs just rang up and has been told it doesn't affect her.
