Hi all,

I'm going to probably get out of the Orange contract and get a smart phone. The main use is for business, so it need to be able to sync with Exchange, be quick to use and easy to type short emails and such. Also obviously be clear as a phone as I know some do everything but have a crap mic :p It will be my 'personal' phone still to, but more leading towards small business use.

I've had a look at some reviews of the current/new smart phones and more or less narrowed it down to the Samsung Jet and HTC Hero. I haven't read up on the blackberry yet, which is the safe option I guess?

Does anyone know which is better of the two or should I go the safe blackberry option?

Any input appreciated :)

I rate the blackberry8900 VERY highly, very ease to use awsome for emails.
Ticks all your boxes
Dont get me wrong a Hero would be a little more fun for a bit, but i wouldnt go it it was going to be my business line

Gotta be a Blackberry Bold / Curve fella. Youve basically described either one of them in your post.

Spawns the man for BB talk really but Ive used the bold quite a bit and whilst it may not be the greatest in terms of media functions etc, for pure communication purposes Ive not used anything better.

Blackberry for sure. You might want to look at the Nokia E71 (although the upcoming E72 will be a nice improvement), but that would be as much to go through the motion of checking out the competition as anything else.

The HTC Hero is a dead nice phone but Blackberry tends to be the recommended choice for business. Android may eventually surpass Blackberry for business, but it isn't there yet.

unless you use google apps, as my business does, in which case it is superb!

:D:D yup the Bold is your best bet...unless you go for the 8900 which is a nice phone but lacks the 3G option.

Ive had my Bold since last dec and its been perfect for me...i get all my personal ie gmail, hotmail emails and my company emails on my Bold. Typing out a long email is an absolute joy on the QWERTY keyboard. Its not great at media phones and the camera sucks but honestly if you want something media orientated then get something else...for pure business/communication use the blackberry is the one to go for.

Thanks for the feedback chaps. I'll find out a bit more on the blackberry bold and come back :)

Are you planning to write emails with the phone? If so would focus your attention on the e71 or a blackberry as it so much easier to type with a qwerty keypad.

Not too many. I really need it so I can check if any work comes in, without having to check my office PC every hour or so. I will probably reply to some with it if I'm out and about but nothing lengthy.

Blackberrys lose a lot of their draw for Exchange use if your business is not running BES imo.

That doesn't mean much to me :p I have a hosted Exchange account via Fasthosts, so not a local Exchange server, it connects via a URL or something in Outlook. Would that still work ok on this?
