This will be the first time I have travelled to a GP.
As far as I can see, it seems Koln airport maybe the best way to get to Spa.

But I couldnt find any info about transportation from the airport to Spa. Can anyone (preferably someone whos been already? :)) shed any light on this? Presumably there are trains/buses but I am not sure how frequent these are.

Also with regard to the tickets themselves, checking the formula1.com website its not so clear about the prices, (e.g. was trying to find a 3 day ticket for Eau rouge, but it only showed the Sunday ticket. Or is it better to just buy bog standard tickets and sit down anywhere?

Any help for a complete track noob would be appreciated :)

can you rent a car? it would certainly be the easiest option
you thought about flying to brussels? flights will probably be cheaper then cologne as it's a much bigger airport

or you could take the eurostar from london to brussels, which then has a valid ticket included to another station in belgium, which would get you through to spa for free.
www.b-rail.be for belgian train bookings. (brussels midi - (verviers) - spa)

Spa is 10km away from the circuit, no idea about local bus services though

travelling by train is a lot easier too, with a lot less stress regarding liquids, security etc. the eurostar is a fantastic service.
if you're under 26, you get youth fares which are quite cheap too

Ooh Eurostar, great idea mjt! Any idea what the price of tickets maybe typically to Belgium via Eurostar (do they do tickets straight out all the way to Belgium?)

Regarding Koln Vs Brussells, the cost of flights to Koln was £100 return, not sure if Brussells would be cheaper!

the prices depends on date and time of travel
http://www.eurostar.com/dynamic/index.jsp

if you book far enough in advance you should be able to get it for £50 return (youth fare). i think it's around £70 each way for an adult ticket

but then you get to go to any station in brussels on the same ticket (as long as you go straight there), which saves you ~€50 return to spa

flying to brussels probably won't be much less than £100, unless you go on ryanair *spit*, but then you end up in charleroi, not brussels..
who are you flying with to get it for £100, because on 'proper' airlines, the tax from london to brussels is £100 alone..

the train probably is the best option. it's quicker door-to-door than flying as well, and the times are better too as there are loads every day

Can't really help with transport as we did a coach tour with one of the F1 package companies with a hotel in Brussels and coach transfer to the circuit each day. Ticket wise Spa is one of the best circuits for general admission spectating so just get a 3 day general admission ticket and spend the Fri/Sat looking around to sample different corners and pick out your favorite area to park yourself all day Sunday.

We spent race day on the banking along the straight between Eau Rouge and Les Combes and just happened to witness one of the most famous F1 overtakes in recent years (Hakkinen passing Schumacher as both went either side of a rather surprised Ricardo Zonta)

I think the nearest station to Spa is Liege?
Prices are coming up as £178, which is a fair bit dearer, but as you said, takes you to the door effectively.

Surely from Hampshire you might as well drive?

Yes its not that far is it?
But my job involves driving about 500-1000 miles a week, so a break from driving would be nice :)

The hairs on my back just stood up.
That sounded awesome!

You need to buy the right car it seems :p

I have an 06 VW Passat DSG (auto gearbox) and it is a dream to drive and very comfortable and have no complaints..

But driving is driving which requires attention. I would like to hold refreshing drink in my hands as opposed to a steering wheel :)

You know, now you mention driving to Spa...

*Goes off to Google Maps*

there's a railway station in Spa, which is 10km away.
you get there via Verviers

but if you have a car, drive. it's not very far at all
and then you can go at your own speed, and go where ever you want, whenever you want :)

Google Maps is saying over 300 miles to Spa which equates to 6 hours drive.
Sounds about right no?

if you drive like an old man, probably :p

no idea about the uk side, but calais - brussels shouldn't be more than 2 hours, and spa is just further down the E40, ~1hr

Well I was taking an average of 50-60mph :D Not sure what the roads are between Calais/Brussels :D

If I were to drive there, surely I can just part at the hotel in Spa and then just take a taxi or bus or whatever to the track?

Ok so checking prices of hotels... I can safely say that going to Spa is probably a pipedream.

I mean prices of 300 quid per night seems to be the norm.

I guessing camping is the only option lol, but I've never even been camping!

Just out of interest, if I took my car, could I park the car somewhere and crash in the back seat? :P

Just realise 31st August is a bank holiday! Wewt! Wouldnt have to take a day off then!
Hmm. Page and Moy look quite reputable... let me give them a ring.
