i have a htc touch diamond, which i have flashed to wimo 6.5 thanks to the xda developers.

however im sick of this phone, the battery life is crap and the phone gets hot.

im on o2 simplicity at the moment. i bought the phone sim free.

i want a new phone but i want to keep my simplicity deal. i much prefer to get the iphone but i cant see myself parting with £350, the other alternative is to get a android phone or blackberry.

does anyone have any advice. will the iphone become cheaper ?

I think the Android/Blackberrys will become cheaper much faster than the 3GS, you could always try and get an older 3G? There's a lot of android phones on the market, HTC have just released the Hero which I have and would recommend, however there's also a lot of Android phones on the horizon this year so it might be worth waiting as prices should soon start dropping as more handsets are available.

thanks for advice. i think i might wait and see

one thing i want to know about android. is the OS upgradeable, can i keep updating the OS, when new version of android is avaliable. or other the OS individualised for the handsets.

ie if i have a htc g1 and then htc hero came out with newer android OS. would i be able to flash the hero os on the g1

Why not look at the Diamond 2? The Diamond is widely regarded as a dog of a phone tbh, so anything would be better.:p

to be honest. i dont really like the winmo OS. its pretty slow and laggy and there arnt a wide availability of apps or even an app store
they said a app store will be available with 6.5 and the diamond 2 will get a free upgrade, but the android and iphone seem to catch my eye atm.

i will most likely keep the diamond and keep flashing it using the cooked roms over at xda forum. untill the os becomes redundant and no longer developed

There are plenty of apps. The problem is finding them. All in one place (App Store) >>> Splattered randomly around the internet with no control whatsoever.

I'm in the same boat, coming from an even older WinMo 5.0 phone. Microsoft do a lot of things right, but they also make some almighty **** ups (and WinMo has become the latter).

Good luck choosing. I'm having a right old bit of bother with it.

The iphone is expensive, and a bit boring tbh. The blackberry is amazing at email, but otherwise its pretty standard.

Android i'm just about to test out, but a quick look at the Hero looks quite promising. It really depends what you expect to use your phone for.. Personal, business, bit of both?

Oh and to answer you're question, nope the iphone won't get cheaper untill the next one is due.

True, it's not as easy as just going to one place, however if a quick google of "(app type) windows mobile" and you will find plenty of results (if you haven't found one on the few big sites. The one positive of this however is you have the choice of testing a variety of apps that do the same thing, and you aren't resticted to apps that the company allow (eg apple don't accept apps that may be better than theirs..).

I have neither the time nor the inclination to go scouting the internet and evaluating all and sundry apps to find what I want, and what if I don't know what I want? Which is precisely why in the 27 months I've owned my current WinMo phone, I've installed a sum total of two, maybe three, apps - and one of those was Opera.

Well try these two sites for a start (I found them within a day or so of having my phone):

http://store.wmpoweruser.com/homeSoftware.asp

http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/

Those two sites alone probably have a similar number of apps to the iphone apps store, and far more than an android user could dream of.:p

^ what he said

that's fine and dandy but your comment about the lack of apps is complete b.s, easy to find and lack of availablity are two different things.
there is an app store from ms due out(as you mentioned), I've also read that a couple of other companies are creating their own app store for winmo phones.
