im after an Acer and am wondering what youd suggest. the 6935g or the 6930G

no, the 6935G only has GDDR2 for graphics.

I think mine is the 6935G-644G25Bn only with the 9600M GS instead off the GT and 3gb of DDR3 instead of 4gb

Ehh? you sure you dont mean it only comes with gddr3 for graphics? Others above have stated gddr3. Likei said i've seen 6930g speced with the same 9600gt gddr3.. listed by a rather large supermarket retailer - go see.

oh well, i dont know then, some have GDDR3 some have GDDR2, must be hit and miss really as to weather you get GDDR3 or not

Well I've found this Acer 6930G T7450 4GB 320GB 16" Laptop listed as having

NVIDIA® GeForce® 9600M GT with up to 23037 MB of TurboCache™ (512 MB of dedicated GDDR3 VRAM, up to 1791 MB of shared system memory), supporting NVIDIA® PureVideo™ HD technology, OpenEXR High Dynamic-Range (HDR) technology, Shader Model 4.0, Microsoft® DirectX® 10

£499.00 so I may take a punt and see if it is that or send it back otherwise!

That's a bargain if it includes VAT :)

Yeah but the specs are so mixed up I'm loathed to trust that I'm get what I order, but I may call and just agree that if it arrives and they have made an error on the description that I'll be sending it back for a full refund!

If it's correct then I'll the throwing a 7200rpm drive in it :)

Well all told it was £504 including delivery and it will be here Wednesday, if it turns out to be totally the wrong spec for what they have advertised I'll just return it within 7 days, if it's what they said it is on the website I'll be very pleased, will leave me some cash to throw a Western Digital Scorpio Black 320GB 7200RPM SATA-II 16MB Cache drive in for a bit of a kick!!

Don't forget if you are thinking of installing a second drive you need the £18.75 (inc p&p) 2nd HDD cover 42.AVB07.001 from Acer as the one fitted is for aesthetics and completism ! Bit of a con really I think it should be included or at the very least fit it as standard.

Actually it genius really. "Lets fit a HDD cover over the empty bay that does not allow you to fit a 2nd HDD. So that we can sell a HDD cover that does allow it to be fitted for an extra cost !"

That's exactly what I've done with mine :p

Nice little performance boost? Are they as silent as people say?

I'd probably take the one it comes with and and just put the 7200rpm in its place, then get a cheap 2.5 caddie and use it as a backup drive I think..

yes and yes :)

The performance increase is quite noticeable, mostly in app loading/switching. The stock drive gave quite a few pauses and hitches that I found unbearable, whilst the Scorpio feels like a slightly slower desktop drive - and it's inaudible :)

Cool can't wait to get the laptop now and see what the actual spec is.... All being well I'll order the scorpio wednesday for Thursday delivery ....

Well my 6930 has arrived :D

But it's not the GDDR3 512mb card as advertised it's a GDDR2 1GB 9600MGT....

For £499.00 I'm not too unhappy and it has the 'N' series wireless card and not a b/g card as advertised....

Not sure whether to keep it or return it to be honest?

You've got the exact same spec as mine :)

Try a few games, see what you think of it. Whilst it's a slightly less powerful card, you'll be hard pushed to find anything near it for £499 :)

Remember, you've got 7 days to give your notice for DSR, so give it a whirl!

Well I'm just running the backup program onto 2 x DVD-R's then I can muck about a bit!

Looks like a nice laptop, really want Windows 7 on it though, am I right in saying I can get a free (or very cheap) upgrade when it comes out?

Was planning on throwing a WD 7200rpm Scorpio drive in it too :)

EDIT: Can you update the graphic drivers via the nvidia website? Can't seem to see the 9600GT on there? Or is it via the Acer site only?

Thanks
