Hello

My friend has just given me his old X48 Asus Rampage Formula motherboard with an overclocked E8500 cpu @ 3.8 Ghz along with 4 Gb Ram. The motherboard appears to take an 8 pin power connector. Unfortunately, my PSU only has a 4 pin connector (Antec True Blue 480 watt). Do I need to get a new PSU or will a 4 pin power connector be ok to use? Any advice is appreciated.

cheers

4 pin power will be fine, 8 pin can apparently can help with high end overclocks and quads.

This :p

Might not like the overclock that you have, if not return it to stock and should work.

Could always get yourself one of these cables for a few Pounds if you want

My mate is in the same situation, you need the 8 pin for CPUs over 100w and/or running dual GPUs apparently.

If this is an issue you can get a whole host of adapters like kenny showed.

Theres no point in using an 4-8 pin adapter. The extra lines are for running it from another rail in the PSU. Its completely pointless unless the board has been designed to only accept an 8 pin plug. In which case, its designed that way for a reason!

What about the dual molex to 8 pin adapters? Chances are they'd be coming from another rail.
