Hey guys, ive got the chance to grab one of these in imaculate condition in the slate grey colour for £40, im just wondering what the general thought is with these units. I know the h300 series was highly regarded back in the day.
It will be loaded with Rockbox if i get it.

i wouldnt bother . the amount of storage is preferable, and they hold up well in the SQ department when loaded with rockbox, but the batterlife is pathetic and rockbox is slooooow.

Agree battery was poo. I used to have one, was good at the time, but much better alternatives available.

seems to be the ihp120 and 140 range that fetch the good money ,quite understandable as the optical out is unheard of these days ,pair one with an ibasso d10 or something and youve got something comparable maybe better than an imod (better i suppose as the imod uses the existing dac)

They're very good players as I still have mine. Audio quality is top notch as is the case with all iRiver stuff. Sadly in this day and age as mentioned above you can get players that are a lot better and have better displays. £40 I feel is a bit steep too lol

How much are the H120s fetching second hand? I might be tempted to sell mine on at some point in the near future.

got it for 30 in the end, hard pushed to find another player in this condition, still has the plastic thing on the screen from the factory, anyway im pleased with it, an improvement over of my old 4gb sony.

Didn't know that. I have an almost unused ihp140 sitting here.

they can fetch silly money sometimes , very rare now on ebay and they get fought over . theres nothing else portable really that gives an optical out ,have a search on headfi theres a lot of members there that use them
btw it dosnt matter if the hard drive is duff as you can put in a 32gb cf card!!
I think the only other way of bypassing both the internal dac and amp is with a Wadia dock on the ipod but its not exactly portable and costs hundreds ,the red wine audio imod uses the existing dac (they will only use 4g5g and 5.5g i think with the superior wolfson dac)

I think I might do that for my own use actually. I know there were mods for fitting 30Gb Toshiba HDDs back in the day, but a flash solution would be really cool.:)
