Best Uk web host?

Hello I am trying to teach myself how to design a website from scratch. I'm learning html, javascript and PHP and it's taking a while. ANYWAY, I'm looking for a web host in the UK (so I can ring them if I have any technical problems as opposed to an american one).

I'm happy to pay good money, I want a service that isn't going to be slow and can handle a lot of users.

I seem to bang on about them everywhere but they really are quality

I just emailed them regarding a billing question and they responded in under 15 minutes, and its 8pm!

I've had replies from them after 11pm and they are ALWAYS extremely helpful

It's really between TSOHost and Vidahost as you will find out! They're both great so depends what your budget/needs are.

Have a look at http://www.register1.net as well, never had any issues and a much bigger network than any of the others mentioned

It's not the size, it's how you use it

UK Webhosting (used by Vidahost + Tso) have had any network downtime for an extremely long time.

I'm sure Reg1 haven't either, but just adding some balance

Rather than Jon's server uptime thread, we should have one about the host's network/power history - not entirely as easy to obtain though. And perhaps more meaningless, as the bigger the network the more likely an issue in a particular section is...

Generally speaking if you ask for hosting on here it's going to be 50 / 50 Vidahost and TSO host.

You can't go wrong with either.

One of the testaments to my uptime thread is the fact that TSO have a rather nice setup in which allows for servers to be rebooted and maintained etc etc without downtime as no single website is reliant on one piece of hardware.

Although my website with TSOHost will have a server uptime less than that of other hosts the overall uptime will be the same if not greater than most.

You could argue that the bigger the network the more management and more issues you could have

Either way TSO, Vida or Register1 will serve you well. I've used all companies and you can do no wrong with either one imo. My preference will be towards TSO as I have used them for the last five years.

Yup, remember submitting a support request at 2am once while I was pulling a late one, got a reply 10 mins later.

.. and i had the same thing with Vidahost at 1:30am
