Okay so it was my birthday y'day (27 yikes!)

I have always wanted an aquarium for my room but never had the chance or was allowed one.
My dad, my sister, girl friend have all purchased things at my request for my very own aquarium. I am very proud of it and am new to tropical fish.
I was talking to my mate about what I wanted for it and came up with the sunken aircraft carrier idea and was luck enough to find one.

I have had the tank set up for over a week now but y'day I got my final piece (the HMS tropical)

Its a Juwel Reko 125 Litre 800mm tank
I replaced the Juwel filter system for an Fluval V3 and Fluval 150 digital heater

Bought some slate n built up the cave in the left corner and I have two artificial plants in there (I didn't want snails so I didn't go real)

the cave I built (will be adding to this at a later date)

Happy B-Day and welcome to the 27 club, countdown to 30 :((((

I'd love my own Aquarium at some point, I have a pond with some pretty big Koi in at the moment, however they're a ballache to keep clean.

Haha, thats looking great fella, pleased you managed to find an aircraft carrier, total bargain for the price and the quality looks fantastic, i love the fact it looks real rather than the more cartoon looking objects you usually get in so many fishtanks :)

Yeah you'll have to come around n see it for yourself. Camera doesn't show it at its best

Thanks mate.
Yeah my girl friends dad has about 25 Koi in a pond. They are massive!
27 club huh! lol we already been there talking about the journey to 30! :(

I normally hate tatty "ornaments" in fish tanks, but now I want that aircraft carrier (when/if I finally get mine going again. :)

happy birthday mate.

i recently had to let my fish tank go, which im totally gutted about. really like your set up, the ships look great.
im going to do something similar when i get the change to have one again.

hope you enjoy it, what fish you planning on getting?

oh and get the heater on a angle, its bad to have them vertical.

Ah crap. Your the guy who posted a lot of fish work. Gutted for you mate. how come you had to let it go?

Well there are already 24 fish in there. They are
Neon Tetra
Kissing Gourami
Scissor Tail Rasbora
Lemon Tetra
Glowlight Tetra
Catfish
Guppy
n something else I forgot what they are.

Yeah that would be me, i've moved home and just dont have the room or the time at the moment to look after them.

gourami are beautiful fish, i had some chocolate gourami, they were great.
i started off with tetra but soon gave up on them when i nearly lost a my whole tank to neon tetra disease, which is passable to other types of fish, you have to be carefull with them. as far as i know lamp eyed tetra are the only type that arnt so susceptible to the disease. luckily i didnt have the discus in the tank at the time.

hope to see some pictures of yours soon :)
check out my flickr for mine.

 Only been setup for one week and you have that many fish!

The tank should have been cycled before adding any fish and this usually takes between 2-4 weeks.

You are also vastly overstocked and the Kissing Guorami's alone would be more than enough for that tank and they are totally unsuitable for a community tank and grow up to between 8-12 inches.

The general rule for stocking a fish tank is 1" of fish per gallon of water and allowing for the gravel & ornaments etc you have about 25 gallons of water in your tank.

Sorry to be negative but I am only concerned for the health of your fishes.

Sorry I didn't mean the tank had been set up from scratch within a week. It has been cycled for 2 weeks before any fish were introduced. However I am aware of the stock levels being a little high. I Was given fish for the birthday and had no choice.

I have introduced bacteria into the tank to speed up the process and can assure you its doing alright. The people who have helped get me set up have had tropical fish all their lives but I am aware its a couple of weeks premature for the quantity of fish. I may take 10 out n store them in my friends tank.

Thats not too bad then, although as you know you are overstocked even if your tank was fully mature.

What are your test results showing?

I would especially keep a check on the ammonia & Nitrite levels and change around 30% of the tank water each day until these are both zero.

By the way what are the catfish?

Good work, I've had a tropical tank for 11 years now. My advice is don't name the fish, they'll die!

Angel fish are worth a go as they can grow pretty big.

A good technique I found for photographing the tank is to lay a flash on top of the condensation tray and remote trigger it.

I'd LOVE a fish tank, simply don't have the room...might get a smallish one though :)

Love it though Johnny, I expect many threads titled 'glug glug' from you :p
