What exactly was wrong with the pump?

As already advised, call you local Delphi Dealer for a price...

You were completely shafted

i just want it fixed at the cheapest cost

you're looking at about £650 if you shop around or about £1000 from a main dealer

Right here goes! some of u were away my mondeo ST tdci went bang flywheel, clutch, release bearing needed to the lot! cost me £1150 in total!

They did a proper job on mine too, havent had any problems since. Plus all the advice about not thrashing your car so you dont cause problem with the fuel system. Diesels dont even respond that well performance wise to being thrashed

Either way, get a proper diesel specialist to check it out, the injectors are much more likely. Saying that, injector problems normally show up with the glowplug light, not the EM light. I'd still want a second or third opinion before shelling out 4 figures again

Really? I can cite you many cases of hp fuel pump failures on BMW N47 engines especially in MGR disguise.

A lot of the time the pumps can be reconditioned and cost half the price of a new one.

not having a great deal of bmw's come in is probably the main reason for that.

yeah im going to get it looked at by a few people going to get it towed home, bought myself a little corsa 1.2 16v ecotec for the time being was cheap so thughut id have it
iaind i thrash all my cars just the way i drive... i dont see the point in driving cars in a manner that dont bring you a smile on your face... its a 200bhp car with silly torque ofcourse im going to give it stick... yeah that might lead to a few of the problems but hey thats life lol

what mods have you had done to get it to 200bhp then? hell of a jump from 155. Also agree that this probably isn't the car for you if you thrash it all the time. You need vtec yo for that!

but taking diesels to the red line isn't fun, all you get is more noise and an engine that is being ragged.
i drive fast, but when making progress you rarely have to go above 3500rpm, and i've never taken it to the redline.

in fact the first time i saw it go to the limiter was yesterday during the MOT when he floored it to do the emissions test. i wasn't happy :o

Why? The only progress you can make down a country road by limiting yourself to 3500rpm involves slow progress, what happens when you want to overtake something?

Also 20vt with stock turbo + redline = pointless anyways :)

i'm referring to diesels, not petrols
regarding overtaking, doesn't really matter what gear i'm in as i just put my foot down and off i go :p

if i had a petrol, i'd probably redline it every day :D
i try doing it with my mum's V50 but the 2.4 is such a lazy engine it just gives up around 5000rpm. shame really because it sounds rather nice

Just a different driving characteristic. The funny thing is the OP will actually be making slower progress by hammering it and killing his car constantly... some people will never learn!
