Where the sun dont shine:eek: So in approx 30 days Im going to be lookig at a new provider. Out of the Six or so that we can get, 02 seems to be offering the best deal. anyone have any bad experiences with o2?

Thanks

if you don't mind me asking why have you binned virgin?
Have just had virgin bundle installed, so far only problems have been with the cheap nasty router and some loooow bit rate broadcasts on fringe channels.

Capriboy. It may sound a bit ott but i had to ring them wednesday night and to cut a long story short i spent an hour trying to find someone who could understand English. This included having the phone set down om me. Dont get me wrong. Their cable is great when its working. I had it in for around seven years. Being cut off on the phone was the straw that broke the camels back for me.

with you there on the overseas call centres. I've had them hang up on me before when they've realised they can't just read a script with me. Subject always gets some extreme opinions though. . . Thanks for reply.

Agree with you on the overseas call centre(s). Scripted nonsense which just goes round in circles.

I just cut it out now if I need to call and go straight to 'thinking of leaving' option. You always seem to get someone in England when you select that one ;)

I wouldn't want to ditch cable though and go to copper wire. Latency, reliability and bandwidth capability are just better with cable.

I know guys that the cable is better than adsl but taking into account the overseas call centers, me not using interweb as much and the difference in the price it is very tempting to change;)

they have tech support news groups with qualified technicians replying , booking tech visits etc all they request is a breif descprition of the problem , a few tracerts + pings , signal level from your modem and the modem log copy/pasted.

no need to run around in circles on the phone and the people on the newsgroup are english :D

Id give o2 a whirl, im with Be* (one and the same company) and i get a 24mbit down, 2mbit up connection which pretty much always runs at full speed (day, evening, and night!) for £17.50pm

Definatly the best DSL provider out there....

Not exactly going to be useful when you can't get on the internet though lol

This is interesting to me because the house I am moving into at the end of the month has a fibre line, and the only ISP available for it is Virgin. Going to be a pain getting it set up I guess. But at least I have a proper router to actually make use of the connection.

agreed. i went from Virgin to Be. x4 more speed for less money and with no throttling whatsoever. ive been with a few over the years but i must say that Be has been the best for me :) 8mb is plenty

OP you did the right thing ;)

I wouldn't leave VM for adsl i have had a few issues with it but things running fine now i could hit around 10-13 meg on BE/O2 but its not enough ;) /me pats his 50mb modem.

If I manage to wangle the 50Mb thru a retentions deal im gonna make sure I get the virgin person to state that there is no STM on 50mb just in case ;)

I've just signed up to virgin, I don't really download much so hopefully won't get throttled.

The call centre is a bit of a joke though, I called their "activation number" and was asked 3 times during the process of giving my details how they could help - "I want my account ACTIVATED!!!!"

edit: To the OP O2 are great, I've just come from there and would have stayed with them if BT weren't such ***** with moving my land line.

The only thing that is better on cable is bandwidth, I've had no problems with latency or reliability since moving from Virgin to Sky 2 months ago.

But meh each to their own.

Er, do virgin throttle the xxl service?
Because there are going to be 7 of us on a line when I move... And that would just be retardedly unfair if they throttled us - if we were using the same bandwidth per person but lived in 7 different locations they wouldn't have cause to throttle us.
