I have a girly friend coming to visit at the end of the Month, and she's a Rose drinker. I've only ever had Blossom Hill Rose, for like £8.

Could someone recommend me a nice one? I'm willing to spend around £50 on a decent bottle?

Thanks :)

Sorry mate, that's daft :)

Blossom Hill is £5 for starters. Also it's crap.

If you're looking at spending anywhere near £50 for a bottle of rosé then your only real option is Domaine Ott from Provence. Which can be around £30. It changed hands recently and the guys who made it now work for Château Léoube which is owned by the family who own JCB. That's £10 a bottle and of similar quality.

For a good rosé Sancerre you'll be looking at up to £15. For a Bordeaux (slightly heavier) like Château de Sours you should be under £10.

Don't waste your money.

£50 would be a waste on Rose wine. Hideous stuff, plus you don't often get expensive bottles of it.

To be honest, I've never done proper wine drinking before, I just buy wants cheapest or generally popular. I said 50 out of ignorance more than anything :p

I wouldn't spend £50 on any bottle of wine, let alone a bottle of Rose. You can get great wine for under a tenner from a decent local supermarket. I usually drink Rose made from Grenache grapes. Sainsburys (not sure if I'm allowed to mention them here, sorry) do a decent Grenache Rose for about a fiver.

I tend to stay clear of the familiar brand name wines (Blossom Hill, Ernest and Giallo, Echo Falls, etc.). A supermarket with a decent wine section should have plenty of good wine at reasonable prices.

That's because its artificially produced and sweetened like the Blossom Hill to appeal to the mass palete. Proper wine it aint :p

No surprises there really, I'm not gonna defend its questionable manufacturing process.
All i know is it tastes ok, keeps her quiet, and i get a bottle free a week from work!

Go to a good local wine shop, tell them your situation and ask for their advice.

It's the drink of choice of camp indie kids, gay men and overly feminine girls. Not really a connoisseurs drink.

Supermarket wine is almost never that good, not compared to proper wine.
Go to a local wine shop and get a good bottle, compare it to that £10 bottle of supermarket wine.
It's why i rarely drink wine, i can't afford it, my favourite stuff is about £25 a bottle.

I suppose it comes down to preference. You can buy a perfectly good bottle of wine in a supermarket for £5 that would cost you £25 at a restaurant. Price alone isn't a good indicator of quality. Ideally you need to buy and consume as much wine as possible to get an idea of what you like and what constitutes a decent bottle of wine.

White Grenache, Gallo Wines - can drink it by the pint, it tastes like pop but causes damage ;)

This. Served two woman two bottles of Gallo Grenache yesterday and they were quite merry. They were also very attractive which made it all the more awesome. Gah I hate being on the other side of the bar sometimes.
