Nvidia says Core i7 isn't worth it ?

All they were doing was disproving Intel's claim that it can improve your gaming performance by over 70%. What this means is up to you to interpret.

I have spoken to some direct source regarding this and it is the age old "balanced system" argument. :)

Well, it's a general rule of thumb. The drivers for ATI cards work better with AMD boards because since AMD bought out ATI they've designed and marketed in such a way that they want you to use them together and they can say that because they've made it so.

Yes, but there's no real world difference and any claim that the hardware works better together is merely marketing.

I agree totally.

People spend far too much money on the CPU (for gaming).

My rule of thumb is to spend double on the GPU (for gaming).

(Although I notice my sig doesn't reflect that fact! I have been putting off a GPU upgrade for too long..) :p

agree as its the gpu that does most of the work;)

purely marketing, nothing else to it.

All sorted Jedi. :)

Regarding the actual article though, a Core i7 system has never really shown any noticeable performance gains in gaming over a Yorkfield Quad Core system.

**newsflash** Intel says dont spend all your money on a GPU unless you already have the latest I7 (well until we release Larrabe or whatever its called)! .............

It like asking a used car salesman whether you should buy a car of his lot or another!

That statement is really for people who buy premade systems. Which always come with insane processors and crap GPUs.

When I get my i7 I'm going to SLi my GTX 275. Hope that keeps Nvidia happy =p

The i7+x58 platform comes into it's own for dual or tri SLI setups as it's got monster memory and PCIe bandwidth. In that sense, serious entusiasts do need a top end CPU and motherboard. However Nvidia sees a larger market of people with a poor GPU that need to be persuaded to upgrade their GPUs, than the size of the SLI enthusiast market, hence the marketing statement is targeted at them.

Try, for example, css and downclock your cpu. Even better overclock it futher and you should see what I mean. Css is a cpu limited game. WoW I can't comment as I have barely touched it apart from an hour or two on the free trial.

cpu lmited yes, but only because its graphics are so easy to render, meaning your already getting insane FPS if you have a decent card. All games end up being CPU limited if you either put the res/settings low enough or you have a decent enough GPU.

Feels much tighter and crisper, always play better when my cpu is o/c. One heck of a difference between 3.0 - 3.4, the server you're playing on, of course, will affect things to a degree too.

Since when is this news? I mean this has always been the case. But people prefer to spend more money on the CPU even if all they do is game.

For years people just note the Ghz of the CPU, you cant change their habbits too quickly!

Well basically nvidia are stating 'Intel are so far ahead of us in their aspect of whats needed for gaming, doesn't matter what processor you have, our GFX cards will be your bottleneck and the limiting factor.......' hmm maybe thats a different kind of spin.

That's not what was implied at all. What was said was that games are more dependant on GFX than the CPU and so if you want to see a better balance or performance increase then go for a kick ass graphics card and a decent CPU instead of the other way round.

It's a pointless argument by NVidea. Obviously the GPU will be working harder than the CPU, so therefore it's not as important to have an i7 as a gaming CPU. The only reason I went i7 is so I can rip my DVD collection and stream it as .MP4 to my PS3 which is in the lounge...

That is processing power!

God bless Homeplugs!
