Creater of the magnificent Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Weird Science and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off has died age 59.

Aww, that's a shame. Echoing what others have said, John Hughes films were a part of my adolescent years. I absolutely loved Weird Science and The Breakfast Club, and the 80's would simply not have been the same without John Hughes.

Surprised Home Alone hasn't been mentioned - first two were both brilliant films.

I didn't realise just how many of the films I loved and grew up with, involved John Hughes. Some truly fantastic movies that I loved as a kid, and still love now. If only they made them like they used to!

My sister woke me up trying to tell me John Cleese had died, was very relieved to find out it wasn't true. She must have misheard this announcement on the radio, RIP

Just saw this on BBC News and thought the same as many here.

Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Weird Science, The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles.

Some of the key films that shaped my youthful cinematic experiences, and all so wonderfully, quintessentially 80s I get an almost visceral sense of nostalgia just seeing clips from them.

Sad loss.

How dare you! I fell in love with Allison Reynolds in Breakfast Club when I was younger

But yeah I know what you mean, it was a bit of a sell out, still I KINDA know why he did it. In the original trailer I noticed he cut out a piece of dialog during the "romance" scene between transformed Allison and Andy which I think would have made it more clear.

Still though, I have a special place in my memory for that character
