So whos getting their windows 7 (full release) next week?

Wrong, actually. If you download Ultimate from MSDN then you only get Ultimate, same with Pro, Home, etc.

Unsure why MS have done this with the RTM, I assume the retail disc will be different.

Are you sure?

It seems that if you download ultimate then delete the ei.cgf file you will get the option of which version to install.

Nope. There is a file on there called ei.cfg that tells the installer that it is to install Ultimate. If you remove that file from the ISO (eg. using PowerISO) before burning then you get the option to install all versions, as has been stated many times in this thread and others.

Currently running Win 7 Pro RTM installed from a modified Win 7 Ultimate ISO using this very procedure. I'm also downloading 32bit Ultimate to which I'm going to do the exact same thing before adding both DVDs to my PC fixing toolkit.

that is correct. it's how many people have been running home/pro ever since the ultimate iso leaked a few weeks back (which as mentioned a page or 2 back is the same as the legit ultimate iso on msdn/technet right now)

why microsoft didn't release one iso and be done with it i don't know. it seems odd that the correct way for msdn/technet users to officially install home/pro/ultimate is to download the iso for each one. what a waste of bandwidth/time.

quick question, we have the Microsoft Volume licensing service center where I can access the downloads and keys. Any ideas when Windows 7 will be on this list.

As guess that this version would be 100% legit whereas technet is just for testing ?

well its due on MVLS today, 7th august, so if we're going off the times that it appeared on TechNet yesterday, I guess it will be around 6pm this evening ... don't expect decent download rates though

If you notice it on there, could someone please post and let us know, saves me logging in every 10 minutes to check lol

With the new SP2 Version of Vista on Technet only working properly with Technet keys. (it will install ok with real retail or oem keys, but not activate properly). This didn't used to be the case with Technet iso's as you could use a 'real' key. Not any more.

Does anyone know if the windows7 from technet will be the same ?

I have worrying feeling come October when we receive our "end user" use licenses, the same thing will happen, and we'll have to re-install. Using different installation media. Has Microsoft released anything to clarify this ?

Considering TechNet installations of Windows 7 will be used in a different environment to Retail installations of Windows 7 its a bit of a non-issue.

Anyone installing a Technet Windows 7 on a machine doing anything other than evaluation is breaking the license agreement, so MS don't need to "qualify" the key situation.

In other words, nobody should currently be using a Technet install in lieu of their Retail purchase which they will get in October.

Assume the acutal ISO's are identical, just different keys ?

Rather not download multiple coppies of the same OS ?

I don't know a huge amount about the different types of OS but if you have the option of 'ultimate' why would you want anything less? :p

Are the other ones less resource hoggy or something?

I had deleted ei.cgf from the source folder and then burn dvd but it won't bootable dvd from boot dvd rom ? how to make it bootable dvd ?

You can't just copy the files to a new CD, you need to copy the bootloader as well. This is why I said to use an ISO editor such as PowerISO.

The free version of PowerISO won't let you edit the Win7 CD (it's limited to 300mb) but you could use ISOBuster to extract the bootloader to a file, then use whatever option your burning app uses to add a bootloader to a CD.

Another option would be to copy the files to a separate partition or a USB key and then start the setup from within Windows XP or Vista

just downloaded my onto my home pc from work (the joy of Logmein). Got between 1.5 and 2mbs over my 20mb Virgin connections.

Looks like a busy evening trying to install it tonight.

NEWS FLASH: It's just been put on MVLS in the last ten minutes ... currently download at 1.2mb/sec ... both ISO's are on there, 32 bit and 64bit .. 2.79Gb

They've also put up Windows 7 Professional and Upgrade as well as Enterprise

w00p w00p thought was gonna have to wait until 6pm ...
