...and asking for a cheap last, last minute flight to anywhere...

Do airlines still do this or do they now charge astronomical amounts for it?

I know tickets usually rise exponentially the closer you get to departure but is this still the case when getting to an airport just before a flight?

The girlfriend and I are wondering whether to see what we can get...:p

I had a look on easyjet the other day. Most of the flights I looked at in September were around £36, I can't remember if that was a return though. But their route to Italy seems to be closed until November for some reason.

People on TV that want a cheap flight to anywhere just hang around the airport until an under booked flight comes up and the airline sells them the seats for a fraction of the cost. Is this just another TV myth or can you actually do this?

You might be able to get a standby ticket, they're cheaper.

What's that?

That's what i'm looking at doing, I know this used to happen, but nowadays? (is this the standby ticket?)

I would have thought you would be better off getting a last minute holiday package to somewhere.

We're looking into that, it's the mystery that intrigues us, and it's something you can say you did. A package holiday just sounds boring in comparison.:p

Don't wanna send negative vibes yo, but are you vaccinated for going "anywhere" ? What about visas?

True it wouldn't be "anywhere" due to visas, howeve on my budget it wouldn't be very exotic anyway...:p

As for the vaccination, yeah, pretty much (needed it for UKOOA certification last year).:D

Iv had to pay £60 for a flight that morning before,.... (dublin airport died the day i was going to oxegen so i was a nessessaty) but that wasnt cheap at all :(

Might be able to still get better deals if you ask, and have boobs

Standby tickets mean you don't get a guaranteed seat on a specific flight and have to wait for a flight that people haven't turned up for. You only find out when the flight is boarding if you can actually get on and it's more difficult if you need more than one seat. I think you also have to check your bag in for every flight you're aiming to get on, then take it back if there isn't a seat.

My mum flew to London and back every week on standby for a year and generally got on the first or second flight she aimed for. It's a pain if the route is busier than normal though, I wouldn't recommend it over a bank holiday weekend for example.

I'd just use a last minute type website for a last minute deal. Last year, I met a couple in the Maldives who had done that and they paid a fraction of the price I did. They bought the tickets a day or two before departure.

Sounds good, tho I don't recommend going to Iran right now! :p

My friend and I wokr up with a hangover in January and decided to go down to the travel agent to see if there was anything cheap leaving that day. We ended up getting a week in gran canaria for £150 each, flights and hotel as the plane was leaving only 4 hours after booking. Was a rush to the airport but worth it.

Ah ok, I guess that's sort of what i'm after. I assume you have to buy a ticket for a specific route though?:)

probably when most of the country is digital, but there is more to the company than what you see when you hit 'text'

i've just come back from week in turkey with the girlfriend, we booked it around 18 hours before we flew out. Cost £280 (£140 each) for flights, 7 nights bed and breakfast, 3 star, in a nice area of turkey (not that bodom / marmius area). Booked with sunfun travel, a company who advertise via the teletext website.

Isn't teletext being shut off?

Still have a website.

In terms of last minute package holidays there are hardly any bargains any more, it's usually cheaper to book in advance.

Not sure about just flights on the day but economy airlines are usually more expensive the later you book it.
