People of the ocuk forums, I require your assistance!
I need a new graphics card, the choice I have is a single pcb 295 or a pair of 4890's in crossfire

ideally I wanted koolance waterblocks on the card but the ek blocks for the 4890s would do

I'm not too bothered about cost/power consumption and I know both solutions perform quite similarly

so which option would you go for and why?

pair of 275s then?

+1 2 GTX275s are better than a 295, although I'm not sure which would have the higher OC headroom with water. What's the price difference between a pair of water blocks for the 275 vs a 295 block?

Edit: If this is a theoretical question, then 2 4890s, when DX11 comes along, their DX10.1 support will see them overtake the GTX295 IMO, of course the answer then would really be to buy some DX11 hardware, but as I said, if this is a theoretical question...

If it were me and my money right now then the 295 would be what I'd go for, purely for a change and as you say money isn't really an issue for you since the 295 costs more.

+1 though for the 275sli, even better.

If you're running a 30" screen why not get two 295's or two 4870X2's :D

it must be really hard for you to have to make these decisions. . . . :)

Given your choices i'd go for the crossfire'd 4890's, based on that they should prove faster in gaming and water cooling will remove the fan noise issue's.

ethoir a pair of GTX275( for someone who perfer Nvida and is equpied with a nforce mobo(or x58:P) ) or a piar of HD4890

overclock the hell out of ethoir setup= a lot of fun:P

If you aren't bothered about cost, then buy two GTX 285s, they'll perform better ;)

i have just sold my 285s - they were annoying me
the asus models i had have a non proprietry board layout that means no waterblocks fit on them

then if i swapped them for new ones i would have to find out if they were V1 or V2 285's in order to get the correct block

plus i had enough of them and fancied something different

my last ATI card was when crossfire needed a slave card and a wierd cable and i never owned a dual gpu card before

the reason i am leaning towards the 295 is simply this:

but the EK 4890 blocks look fantastic on the black pcb XFX cards

[this is going in a showy rig, i forgot to mention]

well its up to you however if your water cooling you could overclock the crap out of them, just wondering which will be more of a brag factor to a complete novice "i have 2 watercooled graphics cards in mine" or a single hmmm :P

im not for the brag factor - remember i am stepping down from a pair of 285's i just didnt want the hassle of trying to match pcb versions to the blocks
if i had to rma a V1 card and got a V2 as a replacement then i would have mismatching blocks etc

having seen this setup by the very talented SNiiPE_DoGG on XS i am torn between the two [he has used the xfx cards and EK blocks i am considering]

my PSU and watercooling equipment can handle either setup so you understand the predicament

yes i can, and that *factor* is the like a off side thing:P

and they look smart
