Texting your partner

Does anyone else here get grief if you don't text your girlfriend/wife? I'm generally not very good at texting anyone, I've still not managed to integrate the mobile phone with my social life really..

I got home from work yesterday and put my mobile in a drawer and forgot about it for the whole night. Now my gf is ****** off with me for not texting her all evening! This happens quite a lot.

Why is it that texting has become a social responsibility? Anyone feel the same?
 
I agree. My girlfriend gets annoyed if we're not in text contact for over 1.5 - 2 hours.

It's a bit of a pain to be honest, and a waste of money in a sense compared to just a phone call at night, cos when we get round to that she knows exactly what I've done all day so our conversation is usually a little bit non-descript.
 
Yeh she does sometimes, I just put 'Love you' when she has a go at me and she forgets about it soon enough.
 
Not really, we're apart (700 miles apart!) over the summer University break so most of our keeping in touch is via our phones.

Usually send the odd text through the day, just checking up, what we're up to and stuff then call for a while at night before bed. But I wouldn't get grief for not texting regularly, if she texted me and I didn't bother replying, then maybe.
 
thats another thign: replying to texts. I usually treat them a biot like emails and maybe wait for a while (up to a couple of hours sometimes) before replying. Now all of a sudden I'm expected to reply instantly! then you end up with text conversations that would have been much easier and less time consuming than the phone.
 
I've had women like this, can get quite annoying, don't reply to a text within half an hour "hey why you not txting" and "are we ok" oh god, I bolted.
 
people get the message soon enough if you don't reply back. the message being, don't expect a reply to a text. if you want a reply, phone me.

Then they start asking you have i done something wrong and you going off me and all sorts of other rubbish.
 
but then they don't phone you, and you start to loose touch with people. I'm not keeping up with the times! and I'm only 22! all this social networking and mobile phone stuff is moving way too fast.
 
I assume you don't live together? I only text my boyfriend if I need to tell him something and can't call for whatever reason but we live together so if we're both free then chances are we're doing something together anyway.

I would think that your girlfriends problem is about a lack of communication rather than texting specifically. The great thing about texts is that you can reply when you're free rather than waiting for both people to be able to talk on the phone. I would be annoyed if my boyfriend didn't talk to me at all in a day, we at least send a message to say "hi, how has your day been" or similar if we don't see each other.
 
Nope dont have that problem...ive always made it clear from the get go to any partner ive been with that i dont want to be suffocated by sending endless amounts of texts....thankfully most of them feel the same way.

Nah we don't live together. I think I just need to try harder tbh.
 
i get the same, shes out with her mates or whatever an i'm home either gaming or watching a film, an every 5 minutes the phones goin off an the wifes texting me, i dont mind if its one or 2 texts but after a dozen jus does my head in lol, then i jus get lazy an dont reply for about an hour haha
