anyone know when this is out? word on the street says september?

anyway like me and cant wait for its arrive? i wonder how much it'd be on contract?

Probably Nov time from what im reading over at crackberry.com. Wont be any sooner than that...Id imagine u wouldnt get it free on anything less than £40 a month tariff.

Pics and specs of the Onyx look good and it will probably come with a trackpad rather than the trackball.

Im buying one to replace my Bold but will buy it offline ie sim free and unlocked.

No wont be replacing any of them...its just another version of the Bold albeit smaller, lighter and thinner and with more memory ie 256mb rather than 128mb.

Any idea of when they might replace the Bold? I had heard rumours about them releasing one without a tracker ball, that would be weird!

Probably next yr if anything...theres rumours abound that the new Bold will be a touchscreen with a QWERTY keyboard...hopefully pics and more info will be coming in the next few mths. Also the new Storm2 will be out as well in the next few mths....but that will be exclusive to Vodafone i would imagine.

As for the Onyx, just checked and someone who works for AT&T in America is saying that they are out being field tested which means its very close to being released ie 2-3 mths so looking at early Nov time....then its just a question of when operators will release them ie they need to do their own testing on the device. It will come with the new version 5 of the OS though...means it will have the new BBM, which i have running on my Bold and works great and looks much much better.

Have you experienced any slow down with the new messenger? Heard reports of it killing your phones performance. May give it a try.

Nope its been near enough perfect for me...although sometimes messages dont get delivered but i just re-send them again...but i like it as it looks much better now rather than the old outdated look of the old BBM.

Hasnt affected my Bolds performance whatsoever other than killing my battery pretty quickly when using it:p.

I know it has a 3.2mp camera but does it take VGA 30fps video? or is it 15fps?

No idea tbh...but knowing BB's they arent exactly renowned for their awesome camera capabilities...at best they are pretty basic...if your looking for a phone that has a decent camera and video recording capabilities then i suggest you look elsewhere as the BB's arent really the best cam phones out there.

so am i right in saying the BB 9700/onyx is out in november this year?

Yup fingers crossed...might be earlier depending on the networks but definitely around nov time they should be out.

Personally im not waiting on any networks to get it as i dont get my phones from networks...mainly due to the fact that the networks mess up the phone with their stupid network customisations. I'll be buying it sim free although it will be a pretty expensive phone to buy..at least £500 offline.

Haven't heard anything about this from work but it looks pretty decent. I was always a fan of the Bold because of the large keypad and the slightly better performance compared to the 8900.

Any idea on the cost of the phone?

Sim free??..around the same price that the Bold was being sold for ie £500+ although the price on the Bold has dropped from the last time i looked.

Network subsidised??..no idea but wont be free on any tariff less than £40-£45 a month.

what advantages do you get if you buy it 'sim free' how do u get it then to work on 'your network'? dont really get it

Well first of all its free from any network customisations or locks ie some networks lock their phones to their network so in order to use it abroad with another sim card...you would have to pay a fee to get it unlocked...im pretty sure Voda and O2 dont lock their phones...they come unlocked.

Other than that there are really no advantages over a phone provided by a network...some networks are notorious for disabling certain functions of the phone.

For me its just a simple case of not having any silly network logos or customisations on my phone...plus a sim free phone tends to fetch a bit more when selling.

AS for getting it to work on your network??...if its sim free then its guaranteed to work on any network...with Blackberries all you need to do is to tell your network your with that you have a new device and they will change the PIN number for you.
