Right my family has a nice big flatscreen. It has analogue in, with a 3.5mm audio connection next to it, and it has some HMDI connectors.
I have these materials:
A 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable
3.5.jpg

A convertor for DVI (graphics card) to HDMI (tv)
hdmitodvi.jpg

A standard VGA cable

My basic use is to connect the pc to the screen with the vga and 3.5mm cables and I get video and audio that way fine, but the res is limited.
When I connect up the HDMI to DVI cable I get perfect full HD vid as expected but ofc no sound, this I beleive is due to HDMI normally carrying the audio, yet on this pc it comes from the graphics card which doesnt (I assume) output audio through the video connector.
I can still plug in the 3.5mm cable but I only get audio when I switch the screen to pc mode, and video when its HDMI mode.

So atm I am despairing and have a family meal tomorrow where I want to show off what the tv can do.

So please can anyone help me get audio and hd video at the same time :p

What GFX card do you have?
I'm guessing an Nvidia one? if so the latest cards have a SPDIF connector on the card itself so you can route the motherboard sound through it with 1 simple wire.

That would solve your problem of no sound through HDMI if you had such a card.

I have an ati radeon 4890. Hoping it will have the same connector. But would the sound still travel, as the connection on the graphics card is DVI and the cable is a converter?

*Edit - Oops sorry its a 7900gtx. But same question. would audio output through a DVI to HDMI adapter?

The Ati 48xx range come with a little DVI->HDMI dongle that sends audio as well, but a standard DVI->HDMI cable will only do the video.

Don't know if it'll make any difference, but have you checked your sound options in the control panel?

Control panel of the tv? Cant find a manual anywhere :/ online or offline. I think though I found the spec page for the screen and it says its not 1080p and only 720p, which is strange as when I plugged in the hd cable it came up on the computer as 1080p! *shrug. If its only 720p I can just use the analogue connection and that solves the problems
