I am allowed to say this, because I am unfortunate enough to be a fan.

Just watching the live game against West Brom and its as embarrasing as it was last season, but the club seem in no way interested or quite simply so incompetent that they cannot sort out their own problems.

Ignoring the great big mess that is the Ashley situation lets just look at the team. I can accept the incompetence argument when they have an under qualified clown (if a well meaning under qualified clown) like Houghton in charge.

Just looking at the team selection they have picked for the first game they have picked the players who are as equally useless/disinterested as they were last season.

Guitierez, Enrique, Nolan, Ryan Taylor, Shola Ameobi, Collocini.

Why even bother putting these ******** on the pitch when they clearly don't want to be there?

Watching pre-season there are a lot of good and more importantly HUNGRY youth and reserve players who want to break into the first team.

Kadar, Tozer, Lua Lua, Baheng, Ranger, Guthrie.

All of them look like they want to play but while they may not have the experience personally I would rather have a team full of decent hungry players than a team of talented wasters who don't give a ****

With a couple of loan signings combined with the hungry players in the squad Newcastle would have a good chance at the play-offs. At the moment they are quite simply (as usual) a great big mess!

Sod that (and yes I can comment cos we are playing you later in the season :D ) what the hell is going on with that shirt!!!

ITS VILE! :p

Even if Ashley sells the club he wants us to go under, so he destroys shirt sales for a year by releasing that monstrosity :D

Love your thinking, and I think you're onto something there.
I'd be interested to see how many of them you have sold, doesnt seem to be many of them in the crowd. Im not really one to talk considering a couple of the monstrosities we've had in recent years.

Oh and this sublime number from one of our appearances at Wembley http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2507/3704786877_2a1a1e0dd0.jpg am ashamed to say I have this one! :D

Oh my, the second one isn't too bad, but the first one makes me glad Newcastle are wearing what they are :D

Who are the backroom coaching staff at Newcastle...

They've had defensive problems for so long and players seem to get worse when they go there... you have to wonder if there's something wrong about the club from the ground up.

They do need sorted from the ground up, but Ashley's first (and biggest) mistake was to get rid of Allardyce who over the course of a few years would have overhauled the insipid and quite frankly embarrassing system that Newcastle have in place.

Unfortunately a minority of idiots jeered for Allardyces head and Ashley having more money than brains dismissed Allardyce. Dumbest decision of a long line of dumb decisions.

Shame Newcastle never looked at Leeds, Owen was on some silly money, the team has been a joke for years.

Ashley might as well take the club into administration, would save him more money than selling them. Makes you wonder why you lot wanted Sheppard out of Newcastle.

One of the worst thread on here for a while.

Where was the pasting West Brom were supposedly going to dish out? Newcastle were the better team for most of the game.

And you are happy with the team that we have at the minute?

We didn't play well, West Brom were equally as poor as us it was in no way down to us playing well, if Krul had not came on and made a few good saves it could have been a good thrashing. We had one well worked goal and that was it. Rest was trash as usual.

It's funny because of a particular Newcastle fan who rang up radio 5 live near the end of last season and said :

"Why should a massive club like Newcastle get relegated, when there are lots of small clubs like Hull City around".

Any soft spot I had for Newcastle left me that day I am afraid.

It's a poor league man, West Brom are everyone's favourites to go up, we played better than them most of the game, so I'm pretty pleased aye.

As for Krul making loads of saves, the keeper is still part of the team, it's not our fault Krul is one of the best young keepers around.

Managed to watch the second half and I thought we were ok, considering neither team was up to fitness. I'd say it's fairly obvious that we need a centreback who can handle the rough and tumble of the championship without resorting to elbows and a centreforward who can hold the ball up.

We could also do with a manager who doesn't go from 442 to 451 when we are in the ascendancy. Crazy.

Could have been a lot worse for first day, I'm reasonably happy.

Its true, you are up their with Leeds but the fact they were more successful when they went down, Owen has gone for FREE, Martins gone, Given went long ago and he was your best servant, even Shearer sounded gutted on MotD live, club is in freefall, the championship is a hard league to get out off, every team will want to beat you and your travailing fans will do nothing when you are going to championship grounds with teams hungry to get up in the table and get promoted, what do Newcastle have, a team of players that had that glory and let it slip, they will have to work their arse off for their wage, shame they couldn't do that in the premiership.

Visionary, do you think Newcastle will gain promotion this season?

Had my doubts before today but the players look like they are going to try.

It's by no means a foregone conclusion and with Hughton in charge we'll probably just miss out on the players (if no one else leaves) but with Shearer (or anyone else in charge) I reckon we should make the play offs.

No its not our fault Krul is a good keeper, but it proves our defence is not good enough how someone convinced us to pay 10million for Collocini is beyond me.

Its not a poor league at all, yes the standard is not as technical as the prem but there are some damn good teams out there and what some of them may lack in skill they more than make up for it in the 120% effort they put into most games.

We need to improve to challenge as Asprilla said, a good centre half, a good striker (personally I believe Carrol/Ranger can form a good partnership) but most important a team who wants to play and wants to win! The heads went down when we conceded, luckily the likes of Smith and Taylor were on hand to raise the spirits.

We have a good core of a team but we need rid of the wasters and the want aways and bring in some hungry players who want to suceed even if that most likely means loaning cause Ashley is pocketing every penny he can at the moment.

Hopefully the lads will prove me wrong, hell I will sit and pray for them to do so but the best I can see is a play off place.
