Report of rioting in Birmingham City Centre

Its coming, everyone can feel it, and the politicians are just adding to it.

Who is this 'everyone'!

Ahh another racial/relgious thread on GD, with the usual OCUK suspects proclaiming that the white man and our ole so proud cultural heritage is being overrun by these 'ethnics'.

Thanks. Sorry for being nosey - I've just developed a mild obsession for your country since deciding to visit. Can't imagine why anyone would want to swap there for here at the moment, but its probably the halo effect and the fact the novelty has yet to wear off :p

Ah, the honeymoon period... yes, I experienced the same thing during my first two years in the UK. It wears off, believe me! Familiarity breeds contempt, etc.

But once you're through the looking glass, you can start to appreciate the benefits of both countries and assess them more objectively. :)

I don't know why the myth of free housing or benefits for immigrants persists. Immigrants don't get offered anything for just arriving in the country.

Is that even the point? It is far simpler than that.

There already is not enough social housing to go around for the existing people that live here. Add lots of immigrants onto the waiting list and it hardly helps the situation.

Even if we were to suddenly build loads of social housing for the immigrants its still going to be coming out of the public purse and the country is hardly loaded right now!

Cut benefits to the scrounger natives (white, black whatever), give them no choice but to get a job and cease low skilled immigration.

You only have to look at the new Mosque that's being built on Regent's Road, in between Shelton and Hanley. Planning permission was opposed by the residents of the local area but the 'Community leaders', whatever the hell they are, informed the Council that if the Mosque wasn't approved then there might be 'trouble' on the streets of Shelton, a mainly Muslim enclave in the city.

That's why there's a lots of people getting ****ed off and quite a few of these threads popping up! The 'ethnics', as you put it, may not get everything handed to them on a plate, like some people think, but they certainly do get preferential treatment from the authorities who're afraid of being classed as 'racist'!

I'm sure if we wanted to build a church that would have been fine as well. It's just that British people dont really care about religion any more so we dont have the need to keep building more churches.

Probably so, but then what's the point in having planning permission in the first place if it's not going to be used properly. It was opposed and then re-applied for under thinly veiled threats of civil unrest. Is that the road we want this Country to take?

Having had the pleasure of living in the area for 3 years I'm not suprised most of the locals opposed the planning permission. Honestly what is wrong in building a mosque?

I'm not religious in any shape or form and would rather no relgious institions were built, but there is a proportion of muslims in our country and they do need somewhere to pray.

Staffs Uni. student by any chance?

Have you seen it? For one, it's a bloody eyesore and not like a you'd imagine a Mosque to look like. In fact, it looks like a warehouse of some description. Secondly, it's located on the bend on Regent's Road, and as you can imagine that's going to cause severe traffic problems when there's crowds milling about.

I bet most of the objections were because your average Brit these days is a sub 100 IQ'd racist halfwit who gets opinions from the Daily Mail not because they had any real objection.

If these guys own the land why should we care if they want to build a mosque on it?

This looks like conjecture to me. I'd like to see some statistics on the immigrant 'burden' on social housing.

And why would immigrants come here to go on a social housing list? The absolute majority come over to find work or have to get a job or find themselves staying and end up working. We criticise them for taking 'our' benefits yet they are also criticised for taking 'our' jobs.

Which is it?

true they do seem awfully quiet.

Yet as soon as someone prints

there's mass protests and car bombings of Danish embassies :/

Apparently there was quite a build-up of whipping up a reaction towards the Danish newspaper pictures before the attacks on Danish embassies and so on. Originally the newspaper commissioned 12 pictures, 1 of which was the bomb-hat one. The others were pretty inoffensive afaik. Some Danish imams did a tour of several middle-eastern countries, showing the bomb-hat cartoon and several other pictures they had made-up themselves (Mohammed as a paedophile, and a grainy picture of what was supposedly Mohammed with a pig-snout).

Here's a very good link with more details.

No I went to Keele so I just looked down (literally) on the area, graduated a few years ago.

I haven't seen it so can't comment on what you say.

In the area it's going to be controversial for sure, Stoke-on-Trent is a pretty poor economic region and ethnic tensions are likely to increase in such areas, fair enough.

Like I said earlier I'd rather there was no building's of any religious institutions and the mosque is hardly going to encourage further integration. However, I reckon its best to have a mainstream mosque where the Muslim’s can practice sensible stuff and formulate community ties.

Because there are much better ways to use the land.
