How can anyone dislike BBQs?

Nothing wrong with a bbq done by someone who knows what they are doing, the mistake is that people assume its easy but getting the food cooked right takes some skill, that and having it all ready at the same time.

BBQs are great but sometimes you'll go along to one and there just won't be enough food and/or you'll have to wait ages for it. I think it's a pretty good idea to have a decent size snack before going.

Or you go along and just drink until the food is ready. I don't think that strategy has ever been known to fail...

A good BBQ done well is full of win, the operative word being "good".

I hate BBQ's where all that's cooked is a procession of cheap frozen meat (sausages and burgers). Whenever I (or anyone else in my family for that matter) do one it's always good cuts of meat (pork tenderloin for example), home-made burgers (made from minced steak) and home-made marinade (I did a nice Jack Daniels one last time, but anything with honey, soy sauce and paprika is good). Yes, it costs a fair bit, but then again we don't have them fantastically often (a few times each summer) which I'd take over many mediocre ones any day.

A good BBQ is also essential and doesn't have to cost the earth (we've got a Webber Bar-B-Kettle), this way you can put the cover on a smoke the meat a bit which is impossible (or at least difficult) with a disposable one. You can also use Briquettes which I much prefer over ordinary charcoal.

Just come back from my parent's place in Spain and they did some very nice chorizo sausages on the BBQ, that was some excellent nommage.
