I have a 1999 classic Impreza, its starting to feel tired now, do I splurge a couple of grand on fixing it up or do I buy a BMW? Its the only thing I can think of that would feel like an upgrade. It would have to be a 3 series and have 4 doors and would also have to be nippy so I could retain a little excitement that I get from my current car. Dont know much about BMW's so some advice would be appreciated, saw a 325se for sale earlier for £5000 with 70000 on the clock which seemed ok. Any other suggestions?
Was considering an ATR but they are few and far between.
Thanks in advance :)

I would invest a few quid cheering up what you got now then, for 5 large you aint going to get much of an upgrade.

/subscribes.

I'll be interested to see what people recommend, I'm looking to spend about the same in a month or so on a 323/5.

If money was no object afterwards it would be an e36 M3. Other than that some form of 328/528 I would think would be best buy, I think the problem with this budget is its too much now for an e36 and too little for a good e46.

I'd rather have a lowish mileage 325/328 than a higher mileage 330i. I'd certainly rather have one over a moon mileage alpina or M3

The 530 looks like a winner above, then hunt around for some more attractive/larger OEM alloys

it's an auto and doesn't have xenons or heated seats, but tbh if it's mint then it doesn't really matter at that price

hm, apparently is does have xenons.. just doesn't look like it in the pics

buy it

E36 M3/Evo. Not exactly a sensible option though. Not without a couple of grand in a contingency fund anyway.

I dreamt last night that I sold my CTR and had just bought an M3 Evo to replace it. Then I woke up and felt a bit 'meh'. :(

I just bought this mint 325i touring for £5000:

Sold my 328ci for 4k:

Both really good cars in good condition but high mileage. The 325i has had a new gearbox and wishbones and really doesn't look like it's done a lot of miles.
