As title looking to change from my trusty MX518 which has served me very well for the last 5 years.

Im not into wireless mouse, so cable only suggestions please!

The ones which caught my eye are the G500 thats just released by Logitech, and Razer wise, the Deathadder or Copperback perhaps (what are the differences betwen these)?

So any comments or thoughts you may have, be it from experience or word of mouth, or any suggestions, would be welcome!

TIA :)

If you know anyone with one or have a local shop where you can try them for size, that'd help. I'd recommend the deathadder as I have one and it's as perfect as you could want! The size and shape are spot on for my medium sized hands (though you must be a righty), and it's amazingly accurate on a variety of surfaces. The software you get with it is also excellent to configure the mouse how you like. The only thing it doesn't really have that might be useful is adjustable weight, sometimes it feels a little light, but really it's extremely close to being spot on.

Mine's paired up with a boogiebug aimpad xl (huge!) and it works a treat. Adjusting the sensitivity on the fly is useful and I've configured one of the side buttons to switch windows, which is incredibly handy.

Ooh that sounds just the ticket you know.
Ive got medium sized hands, and want a light mouse as well! (Not fussed about this weight changing malarky tbh).

Piccy of the Mouse/Boogiebug? :)

Dang just looking at that roccate kone mouse, it does look rather smexy, but is it me or does it look a tad bulky? And the mouse buttons dont seem to curve downwards to mimic the arch in your fingers when you hold a mouse. It seems to be more "straight".

By all means please do tell me if my observations are incorrect.

Here we go, to get some scale:

Dang that mouse pad a bit big :D

Hmm the mouse looks very meh from this angle. But gaming wise it does the job very well? Responsive?

Again is it more bulkier would you say compared to the MX518?
To me it looks more less the same-ish.

Yeah, I've never used a better mouse for gaming, though I have never used an MX518 either. The mouse is very responsive and a lot of people regard it as the sweet spot in terms of price/performance/comfort etc. This isn't my image but should be a half-decent comparison:

I've got a Razer Lachesis, yes it's exspensive but you'll never spend a better £40 on your computer.. looks good and glides across your matt like a dream.. although the Logitech range are good they feel cheap in comparison..

Man that roccat kone looks sweet... admitedly the rotating colour is eye candy :D

Ok the Lachesis got 7/10 on a certain review, but the adder and the kone both got 10/10.
The Kone is so flashy, customisable weights, but tis expensive.
The Adder is light and supposedly comfortable, and is cheaper.

I'd either get a replacement mx518 or wait a few weeks and give the g500 a try.
Kone and Razer gear just don't last. Save for the older Deathadder/Copperheads, they're usually quite robust.

Depends on what you play too. For FPS games you can make do with limited buttons. For strategy games, and WoW, the more buttons the better.

Roccat Kone is a big mouse if you've been used to the MX518. It feels quality but is a bit too big and heavy imho. I sent mine back.

MX518 for the price is a cracking piece of kit. I keep one as a backup.

My weapon of choice is a Razer Lachesis but if you've been used to the right-handed fill your palm Logitech the low profile ambidextrous Razer might take a little getting used to.

Best try a few and see. Distance selling regulations are there for a reason...

P

edit: I'd definately recommend the Razer Destructor mousemat too. It's by far the best I've tried.

Thanks for your input guys.

Just looking at this review of the mamba. Very cool looking, but obviously cool != general performance:

So the Kone is out you say? Hmm admitedly it did attract me with its glowing multicolour lights :P

The Lachesis didnt get very good reviews on XSreviews, but you say its good? Hmm. Need to look at it again. (The Lachesis is an ambidextrous?)

Whatabout the DeathAdder?

And also, I assume Wired > Wireless for response time?

I play FPS/Strategy/EVE/(WoW very rarely) etc.

Mate no one can make your mouse choice for you, i have been using the razer diamond back, at first i could not get use to its small size, i have not had it a year and the wheel has got abit poorly so i just gave it to my brother. i am buying the roccate kone of a guy from MM its the V2 version and its not been used.

A mouse is such a personal thing and it can take a while to find the perfect mouse.

I have never found the perfect mouse yet.

Oh absolutely, not asking you to make the decision for me, just asking for your experiences and suggestions.

Thanks for your feedback, I was consdering the roccat kone, but Im not sure for the price tbh.

Another part of me is considering just getting another 518, but admitedly I would like something lighter than the 518 (but I never acted on changing it simply because I got used to it).

Im guessing the Roccat Kone will probably be heavier.
