Sub and Amp

Were you thinking of Rainbow perhaps? They're pretty pricey...

Oh I know you can get both, just not for £150 :)

if ur speakers are like 260w(front comps) and 360w (6x9s) do u have to get an amp to match that? bit new on the amp front.

Ideally yes, but in reality as long as the rms of the amp is lower than that of the speakers but still close to the rms then it should be fine, same if it is slightly over

Not really - one is always going to be more powerful than the other, even by a slight margin.

First, you want to look at RMS not PMPO, it gives you a much more accurate representation of the power output. A 30w amp will drive 50w speakers quite happily (how loud depends on the sensitivity of the speakers), but the amp will reach its peak sooner than the speakers. When this happens, it will distort which can damage the speakers.

Likewise the other way around.

Simple answer, no, just dont have it so loud that it distorts

Iain's right, lower powered amps into higher powered or less efficient = clipping when you drive it hard which = very damaging

Match them (with the proper RMS figures) if you can, but note that numbers aren't everything. A cheap "500w" amp won't be as good as a decent 200w one

I'm one of these people who has a proper setup at home (worth several thousand pounds) and I know the quality will never even come close in a car. So I just got something half decent that doesnt offend my ears but I'd never claim it to be a decent quality sound

In this boat too, but hundreds instead of thousands. I had the sub to try and beef things up, but in the end gave up when I got the Ti as it has decent speakers as standard :p

The only reason I've got a sub in mine is just to fill out the range a bit. Even with the best speakers in the world youve got little or no low range with the road noise killing it. In the type of music I listen to (indie, rock, alternative type stuff), being able to actually hear the bass guitar is quite important :)

Check the RMS figures for the speakers and get an amp that can drive MORE than the speakers are rated for (Upto as much as w/e your budget is)

Then when you set it up, turn the gain down on the amp.

Simples.

Same as me then... :p

Very little thumpy thumpy dance music goes on in mine!

Absolutely, if anyone manages to plug an iPod in with that rubbish on it without me inserting it into an orifice of some sort, it sounds bloody terrible on my setup. Same with rap/rnb or any of that crap - anything where the bass is artificial rather than musical sounds terrible really

Used to listen to things REALLY loud, gave up on that now, cant be bothered and i like my ears too much, need some decent speakers(after getting a decent car of course :p) decent amp, then set things up properly. Over powering bass is annoying :(

Sadly the thumpy stuff sounds decent on the Ti sound system, but rock and alt sounds good also. Rover bothered to fit 6x9s which aren't that bad - finally a car I don't need to tear apart to fit some JBLs in :p

I listen to pretty much any genre unless it's in the top 40, and thankfully I've got my car set up so most stuff sounds decent from hard rock / metal to pop rock to Jose Gonzalez to folk to drum n bass :D

Thumpy thumpy stuff is best! :p haha.

Spent over 1k on my car set up (and 3 solid days fitting it), maybe a little OTT but brings a smile to my face every time I turn it on.
