For those who have their windows cleaned, do you prefer the pole fed system or a local family run business that uses ladders/traditional method? Any comments would be great, thanks :)

No brainer, ladder method. You can't check anything is properly clean from 10 feet underneath and window. I like them to properly clean my windows and surrounds.

most windows have "easy clean" anyway? open the window and look for a button with something like "easy clean" marked on it if you find one press the button push your window and it swivels around so you can clean the outside of the window from inside :P

get a squidy mop and u can do your windows your self and they look better than window cleaners , buy a hand held steamer to clean any pvc

I disagree, I was a window cleaner for two years using the pole system and your able to see any dirt left over when 'rinsing' the window afterwards as the water shows up the marks.

They come up cleaner with a good scrub with a brush anyway :)

yeah, always done with ladders before but now has to be done with long pole stuff ..... 4 story .... maybe 50ft max hight.

Its the working at height legislation.
The co I work for was highly instrumental in that legislation. Its quite amazing how many people were hurt doign jobs using ladders.
Basically the legislation refers to ANY working at height. Its quite simple in that the directive is that you should always avoid height when possible, if thats not an option then to use the safest practicle method.

Doesnt stop us being idiots when we are at home though ;)

Any more opinions on the cleaning methods? I'm not really interested in whether ladders are illegal, because many window cleaners still use them.

Well i was a window cleaner for 4 years. My dad still is. My two best mates are window cleaners (6years)

Me and my dad used ladders, and my friends used the pole system. I was not impressed with the pole system at all. You waste water and the amount of times bird **** gets left coz you cant see it.

That said pole systems range from £300 - £5000 so depends on which one you have as well.

Ladders all the way.

We have had a window cleaner using the easy reach pole system for years - much prefer it to traditional method because:-

1) It's quicker
2) No way would I want someone using a ladder on my flat roof to reach the third floor
3) Likely be cheaper these days as insurance likely to be less
4) They use deionised water (mine does anyway) so no watermarks
