Hi all,

I have a bit of a difficult situation,

I'm trying to run a deal with a member from this forum for a set of wheels, the wheels are going to cost me £300 (which is quite a bit to me!) unfortunately we live different sides of the country so meeting isn't really a possibility.

I was wondering if anyone could suggest a solution for us?

I am uneasy about just doing a bank transfer and trusting £300 in someone I have never met (no offence to said user)

any ideas?

I notice you have no trust feedback. Does the other member have any?

This is a very good indicator of a member's trustworthiness.

use paypal only thing i would use online and use a CC not a debit card. That way if he doesn't deliver, use paypal's online claim. If that fails can very easily do a charge back with VISA/Mastercard.

He has got quite a good trust rating but still I have a nagging feeling in the back of my mind....

use paypal or google checkout with a credit card

or see if you can bank transfer half before and half after or something ?

He doesn't fancy the half now half later approach which is fair enough... I could use a CC through paypal I suppose but Im not sure if he will approve.

If you are really that worried about it, drive there or get someone else to drive there and pay in hard cash and pick them up.

Use the delivery charge you would have otherwise paid (Must be hefty on wheels) on fuel, 1 day round trip regardless of distance?

The other user is me. Now a lot of people are only thinking about protecting the buyer here, obviously I wouldnt be willing to deal on those terms.

From my point of view, I feel I have enough trust rating (plus 200+ on ebay) for the deal to go through with normal bank transfer. Normally I would be willing to receive half up front and half on receipt, however Fantom has no trust rating, so again that is a little dodgy for me. Same goes for running it through ebay or paypal, I only really stand to lose out and there is a risk there.

Not to mention, its very difficult to find a courier that will insure to the correct value and be acceptable for paypal seller protection.

If you can't trust Burned_Alive with the amount of feedback he has then who can you trust?

Not to be too harsh, but perhaps buying things from internet forums isn't for you?

I do trust him as much as I could anyone online, seems a thoroughly nice chap! I think im a little paranoid if im honest and was a little worried about his reservations re ebay...

So is there not a single method on-line for protecting both the buyer and seller?

Not really. You can protect the buyer by having them only send the funds when the product is recieved, but then that's open to the buyer abusing the system. You can protect the seller by having them send the product when the funds are received, but then that's open to the seller abusing it. There may be some 3rd party "insurance" thing, but that'd be too open to abuse.

I think the only way to truly protect both buyer and seller, would be a company that each side sends their item to, whether that's money or the product, and then when the company gets both, they send them to the correct places. But even then, unless they check the product, there's nothing to stop the seller sending some Anus Laptops.

I do trust him as much as I could anyone online
Then I don't see the problem.

I'll accept it's a fair sum of money for your first trade, cause for a some caution no doubt, but Burned has plenty of feedback and you have none, why should he take the risk?

As suggested in the MM guidelines, get his address and landline and give him a call if you feel it necessary?
